Dear NNEWIN’ners!
It’s true. “The Women Are Coming”.
We’ve had our heads down working hard and are slowly but surely effecting change. Real change. Last week, Whitney Wolfe Herd, at 31, was the youngest woman to take her company BUMBLE public. America’s No, 2 dating app gained 63% on opening day closing at an $8B+ valuation. Of the roughly 560 IPOs from the last 12 months, Bumble is the third with a female founder, only eight IPOs from last year had a female CEO. And of note, over 70% of Bumble's board is women, which is (sadly) unheard of in corporate America.
And on Monday. Nigerian Ngozi Okonjo-Iwealea was appointed to be the World Trade Organization director-general. This is huge. As the first woman and first African, she'll head up Geneva-based WTO that regulates the international flow of goods between 164 nations and helps resolve violations and trade conflicts. Learn more about her here.
