Welcome to my newsletter and happy belated Valentine's Day! For some reason, I decided that getting to the midpoint of this month was a big deal, and I have to say I do feel the clouds parting. Don’t worry, I won’t get all optimistic and make a list of everything I’m grateful for… I’m just saying with the vaccine rolling out and warm weather on the horizon, I am yelling at my family less and starting to put actual plans on my calendar. I hope you are all healthy and seeing the light ahead as well.
Fair warning: My next book, LAST SUMMER AT THE GOLDEN HOTEL, is coming out in three months. Shameless self-promotion season has officially kicked off!

xo,

P.S. Besides my book, I recommend the following:

What to Watch

Tyrant – I discovered this gem from 2014, made by the Homeland guys. Loosely based on Bashar al-Assad’s rise to power but with a much better-looking lead, it’s an easy watch with beautiful scenery and the occasional gory revolution.

Promising Young Woman – This movie is a splurge ($20 rental on demand), but it was pretty great. A med school dropout seeks unorthodox revenge on the people who wronged her best friend.

What to Read

The One Man by Andrew Gross – I thought I had sworn off Holocaust books for a while, but a good friend recommended this book and I tore through it. Well-researched and suspenseful historical fiction.

The Kindest Lie by Nancy Johnson – I got this book from Book of the Month Club and was not disappointed, despite the hype. Race, motherhood and secrets are the page-turning themes in this debut novel.

What to Listen to

Caffeine by Michael Pollan – Throughout the pandemic I have survived on two liquids: coffee and wine. So when I discovered that the author who wrote about grass growing and made it interesting (literally) made an Audible Original about caffeine, I had to listen. Two fascinating hours later, I’m still addicted, but know a lot more about what I’m putting in my body.

What to Win

Jigsaw puzzles got me through the most boring stretches of quarantine. I love the custom ones from PuzzleYou. Win a 500-piece puzzle with the picture of your choosing. Forward this email to a friend, and if they sign up for my newsletter here they will also be entered - good luck!
