March 2021

 HAITI UPDATE

to all those who got behind our emergency funding appeal last month. John was struggling to pay the rents on the two church campuses, and the children’s home which were all due in February and early March. Your donations secured those venues for another year.

Turmoil Continues

ONE WOULD THINK IT COULD NOT GET WORSE!
The danger in the country has escalated to the point where ministry had to be canceled.

A new interim president has been chosen as the current president's term has expired. The current president has refused to step down, throwing the country into violent chaos some aligning with the different political factions. De facto governance is by "warlords". Kidnappers and looters are raiding homes, and are emboldened to hijack anyone on the street. It is not safe at the moment to hold meetings.

Your continued prayer for the safety of our brothers and sisters, and an end to the lawlessness is much appreciated.

Living Light Mission
SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka is enjoying a measure of peace after enduring civil war which lasted just over 25 years and ending in 2003.  Approximately 75% of the population practice Buddhism, 11% Judaism and Islam each, and 7.5% Christianity.
The Christian church has been through persecution in the past through the use of attacks on Pastors and fire-bombing of churches.  However these practices have largely stopped due to international pressure.  Idol worship is prevalent, with shrines on almost every street corner.

Pastor Arul and the Living Light Mission team were able to pioneer 7 churches through humanitarian outreach which can usually take up to one year.  They are currently supporting 5 pastors and other part-time support staff.   Their main goal is church planting and the training of youth with the Gospel.  The Pro-Buddhist government issued 2 building permits for churches in Chunnakam and Neeverley, normally a difficult process.  The photos show the progress that has been made since our December 2020 update.
Chunnikam Church, Sri Lank ; started as a children outreach to Hindus and Catholics in the area.
Chunnikam Church, Sri Lank : Now 250 people worship here regularly in a temporary place until this church building is completed.

We need your prayers for divine provision and financial support to complete the church buildings for the extension of God Kingdom and the salvation of many more souls.
New Church - Tamil Widows

They are planting a church in a war-affected village occupied by mostly Tamil widows.  It is estimated that in that region alone, there are 90,000 widows in the northern and eastern area of Sri Lanka because of the war.  Living Light Missions hope to plant many more churches there.

“Please keep us in your prayers, that God may connect us with people and resources in order that we may pioneer many village churches while the doors are open.  Thank you and May God Bless You!” Pastor Arul.
