Support if you're shielding

This week, another 4,333 people in Cornwall were identified by the Department of Health and Social Care as being clinically extremely vulnerable to Covid-19 as a result of updated NHS research and guidance.

If you or someone you know has just heard the news from your doctor that you're particularly at risk from the virus, you may well being feeling anxious - perhaps daunted by the prospect of having to isolate.

We really want all our residents in the clinically extremely vulnerable group to know they're not alone.

There are lots of ways Cornwall Council along with NHS Kernow and Volunteer Cornwall is helping people who have to shield to get through it more easily.

Hit the button below for details on the practical and emotional support available and information about vaccination for people newly-identified as vulnerable.

Protect your mental health

If you’re one of the people just added to the shielding list we know you might be feeling worried or alone and this could have an impact on your mental health.

It’s OK to not be OK.

We want you to know you’re not on your own, we’re here to help.

Our mental health web pages have a whole range of support available, but we have a specific guide available for anyone shielding.

Take our short survey on elections

We’re asking residents to tell us how they feel about voting in the May 2021 elections.

You can help us deliver safe and secure elections by completing our short survey here.

On Thursday, May 6, elections will be held for Cornwall Council, Town and Parish Councils and the Devon and Cornwall Police Crime Commissioner. Voters will be able to vote in person at a polling station, by postal vote or by proxy vote.

Residents must have registered to vote before Monday, April 19, and be 18 or over. If you are already registered, you don't need to apply again unless your circumstances have recently changed.

Further information about registering to vote can be found on the Electoral Commission website here.

Voters who do not wish to vote in person can apply to vote by post or by proxy. If you would like to request an application form, call the council’s elections team on 01209 614373. You can also download them via the Cornwall Council website.

Essential high street shops open

While we must all still stay at home as much as possible, we can still go out to shop for essentials and Cornwall's high streets are doing everything they can so you can shop for your necessities safely.

Many shops like greengrocers, chemists, butchers, bakers and takeaway food outlets remain open or offer click and collect or online services.

Do help support them by shopping for what you need locally.

They’ve put in lots of Hands – Face – Space measures supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund’s Reopening High Street Safely Fund to keep you Covid-safe.

Support a young care leaver

Could you provide accommodation and support for a young Cornish care leaver?

The Cornwall Council 16+ Team is looking for 15 new supported lodgings landlords to provide support to 16/17-year-old young people during their transition to adulthood and independence.
