LOTR System Update: Change to Name Format on Forms

Effective today, February 19, 2021, the name format on LOTR forms has changed to align with the format on land title forms. Customers will now enter given name(s) followed by last name on LOTR forms. Customers will also notice improvements in navigation between a transparency declaration and any associated transparency reports, letting users more easily move between the documents in a LOTR filing.

Identifying Interest Holders in a Transparency Report 

Customer are reminded that, in the context of a transparency report, interest holders are always individuals. Please refer to section 1 of the Land Owner Transparency Act (LOTA) for the definition of 'interest holder' and sections 2-4 which set out the meaning of the three types of interest holders: beneficial owners, corporate interest holders, and partnership interest holders.

You may also refer to Divisions 2 and 3 of Land Owner Transparency Regulation which set out the meaning of 'indirect control' of shares and directors respectively. These sections provide guidance on tracing through possible chains of relevant intermediaries to identify interest holders who must be disclosed in a transparency report.

January 2021 Filings to the Land Owner Transparency Registry (LOTR)

For the month of January 2021, LOTR received 14,763 transparency declarations related to registering an interest in land and 1,613 transparency reports from reporting bodies. LOTR has received a total of 31,999 transparency declarations and 3,431 transparency reports since required filings to LOTR began on November 30, 2020.
