A Message from the President

Dear Members

Welcome to the February Newsletter. It is very hard to believe it is nearing the end of the competition season, with Horse of the Year only weeks away.  Most of this season's foals have been born and I sure hope the foals you have had born are living up to expectation and your mares are safely back in foal.

The new constitution for the NZWA has been processed with the Incorporated Societies Register following the Special General Meeting held at the end of January.  For the most part members will not notice too much difference in the day to day running of the Association, but one change you will notice is around membership.  All members will need to re-apply for membership after July 1st as all memberships expire on the 30th of June.  There are new membership forms (which are on the website already) and every person applying for membership will need to be passed by the committee before being invoiced for membership.  This is partly due to the financial review we had done several years ago where one of the recommendations from the audit team was to have an annual membership with every membership expiring at the same time.

A gentle reminder too, please do not pay any money into the NZWA bank account without being invoiced, it makes it very hard for our hard working Registrar to sort payments if you have paid before being invoiced.

For those of you with horses entered in the 2021 Land Rover Horse of the Year Show due to kick off in just a couple of weeks - don't forget we are once again holding the NZWA BONANZA for horses entered in the Showjumping, Dressage, Show Hunter and Eventing Sections.  We also wish the horses entered in the Led Sport Horse section all the very best of luck  for the New Zealand Warmblood Class.

A reminder that you only have till the end of March to enter your foals for this year's virtual Classification Tour.  I have spoken to assessor Matthias Werner and he is very much looking forward to judging this season's foals...  we will be one of the first stud books in the world to offer this service to breeders.

This newsletter again outlines procedures for getting your mares assessed into the studbook - although this will not be part of the Foal Tour, you are now able to get your Mares assessed into the Stud Book via a video link for Assessor Matthias Werner to examine.  This can be done now at any time and is an exciting advancement to get mares assessed and upgraded.

And a reminder too if you have a stallion to License we are able to do this virtually as well.  There is no cut off date for this.

I hope you enjoy reading about the stallion Worldwide PB - yet another great stallion that left his mark in New Zealand that was imported by Vollrath Stud.  An absolute career highlight was the Gold Medal at the London Paralympics for his rider Joann Formosa under the Australian Flag.  What a treat for those who were part of his journey.

Wishing you all the best for the end of the season,

Jody Hartstone

New Constitution For the NZWA

A Special General Meeting was held on the 28th of January 2021 via Zoom to vote on changes to the NZWA Constitution.  The new Constitution was approved and has been lodged with the Incorporated Societies Register.  You can read a copy of the Constitution on the Incorporated Societies website:                                                      is-register.companiesoffice.govt.nz or by following the link on the button below

GST and Invoicing
A reminder that GST is now added to all fees charged by the NZWA - The NZWA website has a list of current fees and charges.  Please do not pay any money into the NZWA bank account without first being invoiced as it causes somewhat of a headache for the Registrar.

Membership and Membership Expiry Dates

All memberships will now expire on the 30th of June each year and be due for renewal on the 1st of July.  This change has been made to keep in line with a recommendation of the Auditing team who completed our financial review in 2019.

In order to not disadvantage new members, or members wishing to rejoin again in the next few months, a REDUCED MEMBERSHIP FEE OF $20 plus GST will be charged for all memberships from January 1st till June 30th 2021.
Exciting news for breeder Hayley Shaw of Oamaru.   She recently rode the young NZWB Stallion PL Flying Spur (Eldorado Van De Zeshoe / AEA Dutchboy II / Wohler II) to victory in the Equissage New Zealand National Rising Star Championship in the Show Hunter ring.  To be the owner, breeder and rider of such a talented young horse is really the stuff dreams are made of.  (Photo PRW Photography)
And as if that was not enough of a thrill, Hayley also partnered the NZWB Licensed stallion SP Blue Eyed Ghost to 3rd place in the same class and to 5th place in the Amateur Class - well done Hayley!  (Photos by PRW Photography)

The NZWA is excited to now be able to offer mare owners the opportunity to upgrade their mares into the NZ Warmblood Mare Stud Book (for Warmblood mares of any breed) and Foundation Stud Book (for mares with only Thoroughbred or Arabian blood).  Although there will be no Classification Tour this year, mares are now able to be assessed via video which will be sent direct to Germany for Assessment - yet again the NZWA is paving the way with innovative solutions in these difficult times due to Covid.

Once again the NZWA is delighted to bring to you the Land Rover Horse of the Year Bonanza with $4000 of cash prizes to give away!
The NZWA is also sponsoring $500 towards a led Warmblood Class in the Sport Horse Section at the 2021 Land Rover Horse of the Year Show.

HERITAGE STALLIONS OF THE NZ WARMBLOOD BREED
In 1996 Vollrath purchased a second Hanoverian stallion from Germany: Worldwide P.B. (Weltbuerger-Bella [Brentano II]) a perfect complement for Dynamit and all other Hanoverian stallions in New Zealand.

Worldwide P.B. was provisionally licensed in December 1996, and ranked 16/40 for rideability in his 100-day performance test in Adelheidsdorf.

Worldwide PB is a liver chestnut stallion standing 16.1 hands. With a blaze and three white socks he is a very eye-catching horse who produces the most beautiful foals.
While he himself excelled in the dressage arena, winning several National and HOY titles and competing up to PSG, his offspring were not dominant competitors.

He produced some dressage and showing horses, one of which (World Edition) won the coveted Saddle Hunter Title at HOY,  however, somewhat ironically (as he himself “failed” the jumping test in his licensing) he also left some high level show jumping and eventing horses amongst them two GP ponies and the winner of the Novice Event at Puhinui.

His legacy however must be seen in his broodmares many of which are producing outstanding progeny who excel at the highest level in dressage (Luigi, Latimer, Liaison, La Nuit to name a few and all of them by Lessing).

In December 2006 Worldwide was sold to Claire Seidl-Wickins from Australia who enjoyed great competition success with him.  Worldwide P.B. changed owners once more in 2012 and is now owned by Joann Formosa.  The combination won Olympic Gold medal for Australia at the 2012 Paralympics in London.

Worldwide’s greatest asset could be seen as his incredible temperament making him the only stallion in the world to compete at Para level dressage.  His offspring were sought after by Para riders and indeed quite a few of them competed at this level.
The friendly nature combined with a chilled outlook on life make them a tolerant and reliable equine partner.

Another outstanding quality of Worldwide is his very good mouth which he seems to pass on even over generations.  It is one very important ingredient in the breeding of performance horses and not to be underestimated.

Vollrath Stud love the foals out of the Worldwide PB mares as they are producing consistent good quality offspring.

Worldwide P.B is licensed with the NZWA. However due to his own performance as a top dressage stallion under Claire Seidl-Wickens he also received the full international license with the Hannoveraner Verband in May 2009.
