From the Director

Dear DRIMB Parents/Guardians and Community--

Happy Sunday, and I hope you are enjoying the snowy (and sunny!) Colorado weather this weekend! Here are a few updates for you.

As we continue to make our way through the semester, I encourage all parents/guardians of in-person students to check in with their child about the PPE they use for school/music. As we look ahead to a return to 100% in-person learning (for in-person students), it will be important to ensure we are all well-equipped with our supplies.

All students should have a well-fitting mask, and band students (woodwinds and brass) should have a mask specific for band (provided by our amazing DRHS music booster uniform parents!) as well as a bell-cover for their instrument. In class, we use MERV-13 fabric inside the bells of brass instruments; we release our water-keys on puppy pads, which are used to absorb the water; and I have three air purifiers running at all times. I just want to ensure families that we are doing everything possible to continue to provide a safe place to make music!

Sadly, last week, Marissa and Joe Keating (two of our color guard instructors) suffered a house fire and lost their home and a majority of their possessions. They (and new baby!) are doing well and are relocated into a family home for now. Marissa even was at rehearsal with the winter guard only a few days after this event! We are so thankful for them and are thinking of them during this challenging time. If you would like to help support the Keatings, please follow the links below, and thank you so much.

As a reminder, we will be hosting a meeting for all current band/orchestra families, as well as current 8th grade families, on Wednesday March 24th from 7:00PM-7:45PM. I hope to see you there!

If you ever need anything from me, or have any questions about our program, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I appreciate the opportunity to work with all of you! Thank you--

From our Booster Board
Hello Music Families,

We hope you all had a great week with the kids having a long weekend last week.

BINGO IS BACK!!!! A huge THANK YOU to everyone that worked this weekend!!! We appreciate you!!!

This is our first weekend back to bingo, and it is imperative we have volunteers for upcoming sessions. Please remember this is currently our only fundraiser, and we did not charge any fees for the past year. If we do not have enough people to work bingo, we will lose our funding, which could force us to face some harsh realities with the music programs currently offered. We understand people are hesitant due to Covid, but the bingo hall is taking safety measures very seriously. We implore everyone able and willing to help to sign up for upcoming sessions. We want to ensure the continued support to our programs for the upcoming year and years to come, but this can only be done with your help.

Our next Virtual Booster Meeting will be on Wednesday, March 24th at 7:00 pm. We encourage everyone to attend this meeting as we will be sharing important information regarding next year's programs and volunteer opportunities. We will also be discussing some exciting end of year events. This meeting is open to parents of eighth graders, or anyone interested in joining next year's progams, as well as current members. Please pass on this information to anyone you know that might be interested in participating in instrumental music next year.

Scholarship applications are now available, which can be accessed on Mr. Ford's website. Seniors please get started on your applications soon.

Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Tami Smith and Lorey Bratten

BINGO UPDATE URGENT

Bingo started up again on Friday February 19. Bingo is the main fundraiser for DRIMB. It is critical that we appropriately staff both Friday sessions as well as Sunday in order for us to maintain our spots at Slammers Bingo Hall.

Attendance is currently capped at 100 or 50% capacity. All patrons are required to be masked, maintain social distance and the facility is cleaned between sessions. Slammers also is applying for 5 Star designation which will allow for full capacity.

So what does working Bingo mean?

Students can volunteer for 3 activities:

1) Working Pickle Bar-Pickle Bar is an area where patrons can purchase pull tab games, special game tickets and extra progressive/special sheets. Students get to spend time together and also will get to know the regulars.

2) Calling-The caller handles calling the balls as well as announcing winner numbers for the special games. Excellent opportunity to present to a larger group.

3) Cashier-Help sell bingo packets as well as handle payouts for games. Once again, safe environment to get more experience dealing with the general public.

Parents are critical for Bingo also:

1) Pickle Bar Manager- Supervise the student volunteers in the pickle bar and help balance the cash for all the special games, pull tab sales, etc.

2) Cashier- Parents or students can be a cashier

3) Games Manager- We currently only have 3 games manager and 2 have senior students. We really would like to start training 3 new games manager.

Bingo only works when we have a great group of volunteers. Without Bingo, we currently have limited to no fundraising and would have to scale back next year's performance and possibly raise fees.

Please sign up for the upcoming sessions using the link below, and feel free to reach out to Vanessa Barker with any follow up questions (vanessa@thebarkers.com).

Thanx
Vanessa
