Friends of the Library Announces Officers & New Board Members
(TOPEKA, KS) The Friends of the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library recently elected the following officers for 2021: President Christy Molzen, Vice-President John Conlee, Treasurer Nancy Carpenter, Secretary Cathy Minarik and Past President Sherryl Longhofer. Shelley Braden, Christy Molzen and Mary Seyk were elected to a first three-year term. Karen Faulk, who completed an unexpired term, was also elected to a first three-year term. Cathy Minarik renewed for a second three-year term.
Molzen has been a member of the Friends since 2005 and an active volunteer at the Book Sales since 2008. She served on the Friends board from 2014 to 2019 and served as treasurer from 2016 to 2019. While on the board Molzen served on the book sale, bylaws, executive and finance committees. She is a staff attorney for the Kansas Judicial Council.

The complete 2021 Friends of the Library Board of Directors are Nicola Babcock, Janice Bingham, Shelley Braden, Nancy Carpenter, John Conlee, Karen Faulk, Sally Henson, Marty Hillard, Janice Jennings, Sherryl Longhofer, Cathy Minarik, Christy Molzen, Jane Myers, Janet Nelson, Ruth Nelson, Mary Seyk, Gary Spray and Frank Yeoman. 
 
The Friends of the Library supports the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library through advocacy and fundraising. The Friends sell donated books and library discards through online sales, the Chandler Booktique (retail outlet located in the library) and book and media sales at the library. 

Since 1971 the Friends has donated more than $1.9 million dollars to the library to try innovative ideas. A few examples are the nonfiction neighborhoods, Smartlockers at Oakland Community Center and HyVee, and the Make-It-Lab. In addition the Friends provide annual funding for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, summer learning initiatives and the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery art competition (Topeka Competition/Printed Image).
 
The Friends is a membership organization of individuals who believe in the library’s mission and spread the word about library programs and services. Members receive newsletters, a discount in the Chandler Booktique, free admission to Friends events and book sales. Memberships are available in the Chandler Booktique or online.

The Friends of the Library support the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library through fundraising and advocacy. Friends of the Library help the library stay on the cutting edge of technology, services and programs that promote lifelong learning. Since 1971, the Friends have donated more than $1.9 million to the library.
