Hey <<First Name>>

We invite you to be inspired by Hannah and John; to consider how Roots Family Collaborative might serve you; and to delight in the magic of Dr. Seuss.

Health & Strength to you. - Rie, Meredith, Sheryl, Patty, Stacy & John

Meet Hannah

Hannah is mom to beautiful, 9-month-old ZoraRose. Hannah has worked with Meredith, her Parents as Teachers home visitor, for a few months now. Hannah looks forward to Meredith's visits. They review ZoraRose's growth and development together and Meredith gives Hannah fresh ideas on developmentally appropriate play and activities. ZoraRose loves the new book that Meredith gives her at every visit.

One of Hannah's favorite things about parenting is watching and encouraging ZoraRose's curiosity. Take mealtime for example... When confronted with a new food, ZoraRose brings all her senses to the experience. Her faces and feelings always put a smile on Hannah's face.

Hannah is studying to be a doula. She has always loved meeting people and helping people. She didn’t know how that might become a career until she was introduced to the doula academy. She’s already attended three home births. She loves helping bring joy into the world, and she loves helping mamas during such exciting, vulnerable moments.

Hannah is a passionate practitioner of the Montessori method. "Never do for a child what they believe they can do for themselves." Hannah follows ZoraRose's lead and is mindful of her own automatic, sometimes hasty parenting instincts.

Her husband, John, served five years in the military. Parenting has brought a whole, new world of questions, decisions, challenges and communication for them. Often, John has completely different ideas. Together, they always find a way to be their best for ZoraRose.

Hannah is a busy woman - studying for exams and parenting a newly crawling 9-month-old. How does she handle things when life gets hard? Second Corinthians 5:7 is tattooed on her arm. "I will walk by faith even when I cannot see."

Roots Family Collaborative

Have you heard of Roots Family Collaborative? Roots is busy expanding its services in Park County.

Roots is dedicated to connecting families to the support they need from pregnancy to parenthood. Roots exists to connect parents to parents, parents to professionals, and professionals with one another during this unique, and often challenging developmental stage.

Through support groups, programs, classes and special events, paired with an incredible resource network, Roots Family Collaborative is able to raise awareness about perinatal mental health, normalize the expectations of the perinatal period, and strengthen support networks for our community, creating a huge safety net for the hundreds of families undergoing this major life transition each year.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Dr. Seuss's birthday is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss's birthday. His imaginative characters and clever stories made literacy fun and memorable for all ages, earned him a Pulitzer, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In honor of his upcoming birthday and literacy event, here are a few fun facts about the man born as Theodore Seuss Geisel.

  • He credits his mother "for the rhythms in which I write and the urgency in which I do it." Henrietta Seuss would chant softly to her children at bedtime with rhymes she memorized from her time working in her father’s bakery. "Apples, mince, lemon.... blueberry, custard and SQUASH!"
  • His all-time best-selling book was created on a bet. His editor, Bennet Cerf bet him he couldn’t write a book using 50 or fewer words. The result was the 1960’s “Green Eggs and Ham,” which has sold over 8 million copies since publication.
  • He never had any biological children of his own. When asked why a writer of children’s books has no children of his own, his ready response was, "You make them, I’ll amuse them."
  • After writing How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Dr. Suess so identified with the Grinch that he had a license plate on his Buick that read "GRINCH."
