Pleasant surprises
On a mid-January visit to the Oak Point Cemetery near Longview Washington, I was surprised and pleased to find snowdrops and daffodils starting to assert themselves through an insulating cover of winter leaves. It was a bit early, and I'm grateful for a mild winter, even though snow is in the forecast. Finally, truly, really, the light returns. The plants know it!

It turns out I have an ancestor from Ireland as well as ones from England, Scotland and Wales. So let's celebrate Imbolc, a Gaelic festival marking the beginning of spring! Traditionally held on 1 February, it lands about halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. I'm delighted to discover crocus, tulips, hyacinth, daffodils, sedum and other perennials peeking up through leaves in my own yard. "Bríd Bríd, come in; thy bed is ready."

Stump and Lamb

"Stump and Lamb" sounds kinda cool, like an English pub name. Finding a blog logo with both is tricky. Usually a headstone has either a stump OR a lamb, symbolizing a life truncated or short. There aren't many with both, so I was surprised to find an actual stump + lamb combination in Cornelius, Oregon, and it's not vandalized or damaged! Life has so many pleasant surprises, large and small, in the most unexpected places. (Like cemeteries.)

This blog post series continues, introducing zinkers, pondering cemetery photo views on Google Maps, and admiring a dramatic, robust bronze eagle

The Zinker Project

I'm not entirely sure why "white bronze" monuments fascinate me, but I want to learn more and will discuss what I learn in The Zinker Project, which might become a nonfiction book or an online catalog, or maybe both.

Lamb, no stump

Created in Paper53, posted on Patreon, this logo was based on a stock photo of a perky lamb. I haven't been drawing as much lately, but I haven't stopped, either.

A tour of Michelle's Wiki Laboratory

As time permits, I write up use cases for Confluence wiki software. My Word import article struck a nerve!

Past my bedtime: The Dirty South by John Connolly

All 18 books in the Charlie Parker series have been riveting and I expect this one will keep me up late as well. Sometimes I wonder why I read stuff like this (supernatural crime drama) as well as true crime. I think it's because ultimately good triumphs over evil and Lord knows we need all of that we can get nowadays.
