Wait, what's the "E"?

In our first three issues of The Diversity Drop, we are exploring the D, the E, and the I, in DEI. This week, Equity.

Equity involves providing individuals with the tools and resources they need to succeed. To be achieved and sustained, equity needs to be thought of as a structural issue and a continuous process. Equity in higher education aspires to ensure all learners and employees gain equal access to opportunities and experiences regardless of their dimensions of diversity.

Graphic depicting equity vs. equality. Equality is depicted by people of different heights all standing on the same stool. Equity is depicted by these people all getting a stool that helps their custom height and all people can reach the apple.
The Diversity Drop is a weekly newsletter developed and distributed by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management at Iowa State University. The goal of the newsletter is to advance the knowledge and understanding that will enable us to build a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive department, institution, and profession.
