What a strange, yet strategic, 12 months it has been! While 2020 wreaked havoc on our ministry plans and nearly every area of our lives, God used last year to renew our ministry focus on multiplication. We need your prayers as we actively work toward multiplication through two new church plants (see below for more). But we wanted to take this moment to tell you how God has already given us an opportunity to multiply by equipping servants for the cross-cultural mission of God. Among the many cross-cultural servants we want to train and deploy, counselors are especially needed on God’s mission. Enter Matt King.

Matt will pioneer our dream to train, license, and deploy recently graduated counselors to serve short-term in our counseling center before sending them off to other fields desperately in need of counselors. Matt has served with us over the years at various missionary care events, including our first Asia Area Retreat (pictured above) where Matt grew up as an MK himself.

But we share another special connection with Matt. He’s family. Matt’s mom and Laura Kate’s mom grew up in the same small Tennessee town. Eventually Matt’s mom’s sister married Laura Kate’s mom’s brother. So Matt and Laura Kate share the same aunt and are (sort of) related.

In addition to resourcing missionary families in our region with our NEXT team, Matt will labor locally as he counsels those dealing with trauma, mental illness, relational distress, addictions, and other destructive behaviors. We cannot stress enough how rare a resource like Matt is in our context. Will you please pray for Matt as he serves with us and is equipped, Lord-willing, for a lifetime of cross-cultural missions?

Additionally, we’d love your prayers for:

  • A Spanish-speaking church planting candidate to be identified for a future church plant out of our English-speaking church, UCB. I am connecting regularly with church planters and other catalyst leaders throughout Colombia through a new Redeemer City to City movement. Please pray for God to provide the right person, perhaps even by our next newsletter!
  • An English-speaking church planting candidate to be identified for a sister international church, ideally in Medellin.
  • Our health and energy. Andrew has some lingering fatigue and other issues, presumably from Covid-19. Pray also that upcoming scans for my artery injury 2+ years ago would finally show full recovery.

Thank you for your prayers and faithful, generous support in this ministry to the nations and the next generation. We can’t serve without you!

Gratefully,
Andrew w/Laura Kate, Fox, Evie Jude, & Lucy

Friday will mark eight years since we packed up and moved to Bogotá! God has been so faithful to us over the years.

We went on a hike recently to a cool canyon north of the city. Outings like these have been a breath of fresh air during on-again-off-again lockdowns.

Our kids have been creative during these lockdowns, staging indoor beach trips and celebrating La Noche de las Velitas indoors.

Fox and Evie helped me with the Golden Chain Rap for one of our quarantine church services. Click the picture above to watch the video!

Masked up for an outing to the park!
