Panel Management Training Opportunity

Panel Management is a foundational component of the Patient Medical Home and supports the Primary Care Networks (PCNs) that enable an integrated system of care for BC. Panel Management is the use of EMR data to identify and respond to patients chronic and preventative care needs; better data leads to better care.

As primary care evolves in British Columbia, the GPSC is continuously reviewing the needs of practice teams, and practice support needs. Specialized skills and additional training are needed to augment the existing services to support, integrate and build successful inter-professional teams in primary care.

Based on findings from an MOA survey, focus groups, and learnings from supporting Panel Management over the past few years, the GPSC is developing a tailored, practical, hands-on training program to certify office staff in Panel Management. The program is being developed and delivered in partnership with the University of Fraser Valley (UFV) with input and feedback from MOAs and physicians.

Doctors of BC is aiming to launch a pilot cohort in March and is currently looking for candidates within PCN communities to participate. They have 12 spots for the pilot so please only send one candidate- all remaining applicants can enroll in the following cohort. The program will consist of 7 sessions with a final capstone quality improvement (QI) project implemented in-practice. Funding for this program will be provided by the GPSC.

The participants in the pilot will be providing valuable feedback on the content and structure of the program and thus we want to ensure those who enroll are committed and complete the entire course. To that end, they have outlined criteria for participation which you can find here.

If you have someone in mind that would meet the description and would be interested in participating, please ask them to fill out the application form and email to dfawcett@doctorsofbc.ca.

They are very excited to be able to offer this continuing professional development opportunity to medical office staff and help alleviate some of the building administrative burden placed on physicians. Going forward they will be offering the program to two cohorts a year (total of 48 participants) so there will be further opportunities for other members of your community to access this training.

For this first cohort, they have limited space and will only be accepting 12 participants. Any additional applicants will be slotted in for the following cohort. They request that all applications be submitted by February 12th, 2021

Thank you for your consideration and support. The pilot will start on March 31st and complete on July 7th, sessions will be held online in the evenings, which will not disrupt regular work hours.

Please email Doctors of BC if you have further questions.
