The Greatest Need in the Church, Part 2

By Pastor Eric L. Ollila | February 10, 2021

Last week, we considered the claim that the Church's greatest need today is Christ and leadership by example, not just Christ alone. If you didn't read the previous article, please check it out for context to this radical claim, The Greatest Need In The Church (albertaadventist.ca)

It was observed that Christ did not complete the mission of taking the Gospel to every nation, kindred, tongue and people while He was here on earth. And, the Church hasn't achieved that mission either. We ended last week's devotional with the question, why?

Click the button below for the answer.  It might surprise you!

COVID has been difficult for many youth & young adults. Isolation had a negative impact on youth, causing mental health challenges. Unfortunately, suicide rates have been increasing. We want to create a safe and open space to discuss this important topic related to youth and young adults.

Our guest speaker, Pastor Patrick E. Jacques is currently finishing up a Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary in clinical psychology. There will be a sermon in the morning and an open dialogue on mental health. Primarily, we will be focusing on the power of "Mental Mentorship."

GLOBAL YOUTH DAY - MARCH 20, 2021
Reaching Out: Cultures, Colours, Communities

We are excited that Global Youth Day is coming up!
This year global youth day takes place on March 20, 2021. Join on Zoom Live at 10:00 am for a lively youth Sabbath school discussion and then 12:00 Noon with a powerful guest speaker, Pastor Ashia Lennon. We will be celebrating the blessing and the power of youth all around the world.

COVID made it challenging to meet in person. Usually, we would be out in the community making a difference. How can you be creative and help those who are in need? Much can still be done to help your community.

Here are some ways to get involved:
  • Plan a quiz (hosted online)
  • Organise a social gathering on zoom for a community group (teens, children, seniors, etc.)
  • How about running a craft session where craft packs are sent to people in advance, and they get together to do the crafts online
  • Could you do an online healthy cooking class for the community?
  • Make care packages/school supplies that can be delivered to people/homes etc., without physically getting together.
  • Arrange an online concert or prepare a recording of a selection of songs/poems/readings/a play from your youth group for your local care home.
  • What else can you think of...?

Will you reach out to those who are lost? Pastor Ted Wilson shares encouraging words for how to reach the world.

I Will Go Reach the World

SILVER SPRING, MD, USA | FEBRUARY 5, 2021

Greetings, friends! It is amazing how quickly time is passing, and we are already into the second month of 2021. Events around us are moving fast, reminding us every day that we are coming closer to the Lord’s soon return!  And while we have the wonderful hope of soon seeing Jesus face to face, we must remember there are so many others in the world today who do not yet have this hope—people who are frightened by what they see happening around them, people who are wondering what the future holds but do not know where to find trustworthy answers. Others may have known the truth at one time but have since left the faith. Read more here https://adventist.news/en/news/i-will-go-reach-the-world

But in what could only be described as a miracle of faithfulness, 2020 tithe figures for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in North America (NAD) came in close to 1.1 billion dollars. Youth from Mission Caleb Open Mission Point in Capitan Bado, Paraguay

PARAGUAY  | SHEYLA PAIVA  |  FEBRUARY 6, 2021

With great joy, more than a thousand young people from Paraguay carried out the first missionary activity of the year: Mission Caleb. They dedicated a week of their time off from school to community service and lived an experience of service, self-denial, and mission.

One of the major evangelistic points was developed in the city of Capitán Bado, department of Amambay, on the border of Brazil.

During the Caleb Mission, many testimonies of conversion were shared. One of them was that of Claudia Garay and her family. Read more here https://adventist.news/en/news/youth-from-mission-caleb-open-mission-points-in-the-city-of-paraguay

Speaking the Same Language: Can the Church Engage the Culture?

ADVENTIST RECORD |  JARROD STACKELROTH   |  FEBRUARY 9, 2021

Traditionally, Adventists have had a troubled relationship with sport. Some would argue watching sport is a waste of time, that playing sport is competitive. A similar philosophy has extended to our attitude to novels, movies, television and other cultural artefacts. Entertainment, it seems, is not a very Adventist virtue. However, many of us still partake in these pastimes, we just keep it quiet or don’t share in church circles.
