how I became more confident

People always tell me I’m so sure of myself and that they can’t believe how open I am. I wasn’t always like this. In fact, for years I felt lost and had completely forgotten who I was.
A toxic workplace does that to you. Having someone looking over your shoulder. Constantly questioning you. Nitpicking your successes instead of celebrating them.
I felt completely confused. Because I began to question everything I did, nitpicking everything. My confidence eroded.
Many people didn’t know. They knew I didn’t like my job but not the toll it was having on me, I wasn’t very open and didn’t like to share. I got really good at wearing a mask.
Taking the job wasn’t the mistake. Neither was staying in the job.
No, it was isolating myself. It was not telling people about my struggles. It was not asking for help.
It’s hardwired into me. To figure it out. Myself. To make things better. Myself.
But then I began to reach out, to ask for help. I slowly began to let people in, to share my struggles with them. What you see today isn’t an overnight success story. It’s a story of someone who got the help she needed, worked hard on her confidence and became more open to being vulnerable.
It’s also the story of becoming the coach who helps others with this same problem: feeling lost in their careers but hiding it. Feeling like crap and scared to ask for help, to let someone in.
