The OCR is excited to partner with Dr. Nita Mosby Tyler of the Equity Project to offer a workshop on deconstructing definitions, exploring the impact of language on systems of equity, and more! Details and registration to come. These workshops will not be recorded.
The March 12th and April 16th workshops will be the same program - not Part I and Part II as originally promoted. This training will count toward OCR's required DEI training hours, a requirement that starts July 1, 2021.

9th Annual Excellence in Juvenile Defense Conference

The OCR is excited to partner with the Colorado Juvenile Defender Center, the Office of the Alternate Defense Counsel, and the Office of the State Public Defender again this year for the annual juvenile defense conference.
Scholarships: Scholarships will be available for OCR contract attorneys who are on the delinquency appointment list. OCR contract attorneys can apply for a scholarship here.
Registration for non-scholarship attendees will be open soon.

Children Killed in the Context of Domestic Violence: Lessons Learned in Tragedies
Although child homicides are relatively rare events, many of these deaths appear predictable and preventable with hindsight. These reviews by interdisciplinary committees shed light on what transpired and how to prevent the same outcome in similar circumstances in the future. These reviews often highlight patterns of known risk factors prior to the homicide as well as shortcomings in inter-agency collaboration with health, social services, and education and justice professionals.
Dr. Peter Jaffe is a psychologist and Professor in the Faculty of Education at Western University and the Academic Director of the Centre for Research and Education on Violence Against Women & Children. He is the Director Emeritus for the London Family Court Clinic, which is a children’s mental health centre specializing in issues that bring children and families into the justice system in London, Ontario. He has co-authored eleven books, 29 chapters and over 80 articles related to domestic violence, the impact of domestic violence on children, homicide prevention and the role of the criminal and family justice systems

Project SCOPE
Supporting Children of the Opioid Epidemic

Training Series: February 25 - April 15, 2021
Project SCOPE is a national training initiative lead by the Wyoming Institute for Disabilities in partnership with the Nisonger Center at Ohio State and the University of Cincinnati Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities through funding from the Administration for Community Living, HHS.
The purpose of the initiative is to train on evidence-based practices in screening, monitoring, and interdisciplinary care for young children and families impacted by Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS), opioid use, trauma, or related exposure.
The curriculum includes, but is not limited to, current research on developmental outcomes of prenatal exposure to opioid and other substances, trauma informed care, provider secondary trauma stress, and strategies to support caregivers. This initiative is intended to improve outcomes by linking research to practical application in local communities, providing opportunities to share knowledge and findings with national networks and federal agencies, and providing recommendations for future interventions.

Understanding child development is essential for those involved in deciding and influencing decisions about the best interests of children whose parents cannot agree on what is best. For parenting plans to be supportive of the child and to foster their well-being, considerations of the child’s development is crucial. This webinar will look at child development along cognitive, emotional and social lines specifically focusing on applying this knowledge to developing parenting plans for children.
Robert A. Simon, Ph.D., is a longtime member of AFCC. He is an internationally recognized leader in forensic psychology consulting.
