Directors' Forum News & Updates

A NEW LOOK FOR THE DF

The Directors’ Forum has officially rebranded with a brand new look! Since we recently incorporated as a Not-for-Profit Co-operative, we thought this would be a good time to update our logo and start the New Year off with a fresh, modern look and feel to all our communication media.

Over the coming weeks and months, you will see the new logo and image reflected in our newsletter, emails, social media channels and posts, our virtual sessions and conference, and on our website. We have also registered for both the dot ca and dot coop domains, as it is important for us to showcase our pride in being a co-operative enterprise.

If you haven’t already done so, please visit the updated website and let us know what you think!

BOARD UPDATE

The DF Board held its first strategic planning meeting in January to discuss what the 2021 program year could look like, given the current circumstances. While it is too early to make any major decisions, they have decided to prepare for three scenarios: 1 - a Virtual Conference and AGM in October; 2 - an in-person Conference & AGM in either October or November (pending the venue’s availability); or 3 - a hybrid event, with some delegates attending the Conference and AGM in person, and others virtually in either October or November.

Many factors will influence the final decision in the weeks and months leading up to the event, including: the status of the pandemic and vaccine rollout at that time, the capacity and ability of the venue to comply with safety and social distancing measures as mandated by the Government, the overall cost of hosting either scenario two or three, and the DF’s ability to host either scenario without a significant loss in revenue.

No matter what course of action they take, the health and well-being of the delegates, staff and the Board are of utmost importance and will be driving their decisions along the way; it is key that every single participant to feel safe and comfortable at all times.

Due to the success of the Director Discussion and Virtual Governance sessions throughout 2020 to present, the Board is also planning more of these types of sessions for the fall and winter of 2021-22. At least one positive outcome of the past year has become evident: the Directors’ Forum has evolved from an annual two-day conference, to a year-round event that engages system directors and provides them with unique learning and networking opportunities!

VIRTUAL GOVERNANCE SESSIONS

Virtual Governance Session: Wednesday, February 17 from 10 - 11:15am EST
Guest speaker Cory Munden (CEO, Leading Edge Credit Union) joins facilitator Donna Bailey (CCUA) to discuss why and how credit unions should support co-operatives, as we move past the pandemic and into a new world. COVID-19 has spurred a need for change, and this is the time to revisit our co-operative roots and put Principle Six “Co-operation among Co-operatives” into action!

Virtual Governance Session: Wednesday, March 10 from 10:30 - 11:45am EST
John Taylor (President, OMIA), Paul Vandenbosch (Director, Middlesex Mutual) and Tanya Gracie (Central 1) will consider the similarities and differences between mutuals and credit unions, while exploring opportunities for collaboration between the two sectors, how the two systems operate, the unique challenges that boards face, and how our two governance systems are converging.

ATTENTION BOARD CHAIRS & VICE-CHAIRS

A few months ago, the DF Board made the decision to discontinue the Board Chairs’ Network (online platform) that we launched in 2018. This doesn’t affect the Board Chairs’ session that they will continue to host at the annual conference. They would, however, like to continue communicate with you occasionally throughout the year...
The Directors' Forum is therefore in the process of updating their database to improve its accuracy and effectiveness when corresponding with Chairs, and to add Vice-Chairs to this list. If you are a Board Chair or Vice-Chair of an Ontario Credit Union or Caisse Populaire, please take a moment to complete this very brief questionnaire (or share it with your Chair/Vice-Chair), to help us update our Mailing List!

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Some of your credit unions may have received an email from Conventioneers (or marketing@conventioneers.us) last month, including a promo code and promoting a discounted rate at the Hilton Mississauga-Meadowvale as a limited time offer. Please note that this email did not come from the Directors' Forum, nor are we working with any external companies to offer these types of promotions. The DF email was spoofed by this (legitimate) US-based company, so please be weary of any emails coming from them (or any other such company) in the future, and do not use their platform to book your accommodations. Thank you!
