We ALL Have a Lot to Learn

... And that's why I'm so grateful for all of the experts who have been sharing helpful information and perspectives in interviews for the Awake blog. This week's blog post, featuring commentary by local psychotherapist Mitch Mueller, LPC, offers information about sexual abuse and sexual offenders that may be new to many of us. We need to know more to be able to do better, so I hope you will take the time to read.

On a different note, I'm giving a presentation for "Eat, Drink, and Be Catholic @Home" tonight, and I would love to have you tune in to hear the story of Awake and what I have learned from listening to survivors.

Let's keep on walking this path, together.

Executive Director, Awake Milwaukee

PS: If you are in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and haven't yet written a letter to our bishops about the music of David Haas, could you please do so this week? We are aware of about 50 letters that have been sent, but no responses yet. Details and a simple template are available here.

See You Tonight?

Reminder: Your Action is Needed!

We invite all Catholics to stand in solidarity with survivors by requesting the suspension of music by David Haas from public liturgies. If you live in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, we ask you to write a letter to our bishops ASAP!

Blog Post: What We Often Get Wrong About Sexual Abuse and Sexual Offenderss

"Not all abusers engage in grooming behaviors, explains psychotherapist Mitch Mueller, LPC, of West Bend, Wisconsin, who has worked for many years treating sexual offenders. A practicing Catholic and parishioner at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception in West Bend, Mueller feels called to educate the public about people who commit sexual crimes. 'If you don’t understand offenders, you’re not going to do a good job of reducing the offenses,' he says."
