A LETTER FROM HEAD OF SCHOOL, RICHARD DE LA CUADRA

Xavier families -

My heart is heavy over the tumultuous events of the past week. At the forefront of our priorities is the health and safety of our students and their families and I sincerely hope you have all fared well and remained safe and warm through this unprecedented winter storm.

As we navigate the challenges of recovering from the lasting physical and emotional damages caused this past week, I want to assure you all that your Xavier family is here for you in any capacity needed. For those who experienced emotional distress, please consider participating in our individual therapy sessions to process and manage any resulting or heightened anxiety and/or depression. Our premier mental health professionals are committed to supporting you and your child's mental health during this time. For more information on our mental health resource offerings, please visit our website here

As we transition back to normal, we are excited to welcome our students back to campus for in-person learning tomorrow, Wednesday, February 24 for the final three weeks of school before spring break which will be from March 15 - 19, 2021. Two weekends later we will be hosting our annual Spring FUNdraiser on April 8, 2021 at 8:00pm. This event will be held at the wonderful Armadillo Palace, providing ample space for social distancing and a beautiful venue for a night of camaraderie and community. Attendance will be limited to 150 people, however, those unable to attend in-person will be able to join us virtually. For more information on the gala, please visit our events page here

Lastly, due to last week's storm, parent teacher conferences were cancelled. We are still looking forward to connecting with you regarding your child's education and will be in contact shortly once we solidify the new date.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your student's education. Again, the Xavier community stands with you during this challenging time. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of our faculty and one another for any assistance needed.

Stay safe and stay warm.

-Richard

Mindful Self-Compassion Course

Does your student struggle with feeling stressed or anxious? Down or depressed?

Mindfulness teaches us how to be present with difficult emotions, and self-compassion helps us to respond to these emotions with greater kindness and self-care. Practicing mindfulness is an excellent way to manage mental health issues and promote overall self-love and care.
Xavier therapist, Dr. Melanie Gregg, will be hosting two Mindful Self-Compassion courses during the spring semester. The first one will be held through the months of March and April on Wednesdays from 5:45pm - 7:00pm via Zoom. The second one is dedicated to LGBTQ+ teens and will be held from April - May on Tuesdays from 7:00pm - 8:15pm.  Through fun activities and meditations, your student will learn tools to help navigate the emotional ups and downs of being a teen.

If you think your student could benefit from this course, please email Dr. Melanie Gregg at mgregg@drmelaniegregg.com to register and visit our wellness page for more info on mental health resources.
