Happy New Year everyone! Hopefully, you all found some time to relax over the summer break and enjoy our beautiful country. We want to let you know about some fun ideas we have planned to get your 2021 off to a great start and to help the ADSA at the same time.

'World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD)' is on 21 March. We normally recognize this day by holding Buddy Walk. Unfortunately, due to ongoing concerns around Covid-19, there won’t be a Buddy Walk event in 2021. BUT, we are still holding our raffle, asking members to help in peer-to-peer fundraising, and this year we would love you to join us in our WDSD ONLINE CELEBRATION.

Included in this update:

Come join us in our ONLINE CELEBRATION

Can you help us celebrate World Down Syndrome Day during the month of March?

Below are just a few fun ideas/challenges you could do during the lead up to WDSD on 21 March. Maybe start a discussion on our Facebook Members Only page and share some ideas with other members.

  • DIY Buddy Walk with your family
  • 21 days of kindness
  • Get active - walk, run, cycle, skip every day - how far can you go in 21 days?
  • Do 21 things - make 21 cards, make 21 cupcakes, make 21 people happy
  • Or Just CELEBRATE with a PARTY! - send us photos of your WDSD party, best family photo, a message of support for ADSA, what you love best about Down syndrome
  • Host a local event with other members and send us a pic
  • Propose a CHALLENGE to one of our committee members
  • Reflect for 21 minutes
  • 21 minutes of yoga
  • Light 21 candles

More suggestions coming up! Let us know what you are doing by sending a description and any photos to communications@adsa.org.nz during March, so we can share them on our Facebook event page. And if you are planning to do something special just on WDSD (21.3.21), make sure you share it with us on the day!

We urgently need your photos and videos

WDSD is an international event, so we want to use social media to show the world our Kiwi families. Are you able to share a photo or short video clip of your family for a photo montage we are putting together? The more photos the better and they don’t need to be professional quality – just images of your family doing everyday things like baking, playing a sport, holidaying, working, drawing, painting or playing.

Please send your photos/videos for our montage to Deanne at communications@adsa.org.nz by 14 March.
