Take driving tour of Black History in Hampton

Celebrate Black History Month by taking a driving tour that highlights more than 400 years of rich African American history in Hampton. The 400 Years Forward Driving Tour explores heritage sites throughout the city, including Fort Monroe National Monument, the Emancipation Oak, Aberdeen Gardens, the Little England Chapel, the Tucker family cemetery, and the Hampton History Museum. Update on state, local covid cases  

There were 62 new covid cases reported today in Hampton, continuing a recent decline. Over the past seven days there was an average of 72 cases daily. Hampton has had 7,937 coronavirus cases reported since the pandemic began, with 261 people hospitalized and 84 deaths. The percentage of people who were tested for covid, and had positive results, remains high, at 20%.

In Virginia, there were 3,699 new cases reported today. Over the past seven days, there was an average of 3,517 new covid cases daily. Virginia has had 541,018 covid cases reported since the pandemic began, with 22,615 people hospitalized and 6,958 deaths. The percentage of people who were tested for covid, and had positive results, was 10.1%.

Officials urge residents to continue practicing social distancing, wear masks and wash their hands regularly to avoid spreading covid. You can get more information on cases, the latest testing results, and the covid vaccines by visiting the Virginia Department of Health website.
 

CVS begins vaccine registration

CVS Pharmacy has begun registering Virginians age 65 and older who are within the Phase 1b eligibility guidelines for vaccinations as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Although the supply of vaccine remains low statewide, eligible individuals can register online. CVS will begin administering vaccinations on Friday, Feb. 12.

Closed for Presidents Day

Most city offices and schools will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, for Washington's Birthday, or Presidents Day. There will be no regular trash or recycling pickup Monday.  Monday's trash will be picked up on Wednesday. Information in Enews Wednesday was incorrect. Go online for the closing list.
