Next week we mark the end of the season of Epiphany

Next week we mark the end of the season of Epiphany and move into the season of Lent.  Normally some folks might attend one of the nearby churches for a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.
For many years I attended the one held here in Thamesville, at the former St. Stephen's Parish hall.  It was an annual tradition that found church volunteers buzzing around, serving coffee and tea, cooking up sausages and pancakes, and sometimes a pot of stew was shared as well.  Everyone who attended enjoyed the table fellowship which was apparent in the chatter and conversations shared with one another.

This year we will be gathering in our own homes as we continue to care for one another and the communities in which we live. Will pancakes still be served up at your table?

If they are, please share your favourite pancake recipe!  Or a picture of you eating your pancakes for our next news edition.  In the meantime, here are a couple of pancake recipes to get you in the mood.                                                                                                                                                  Photo shown below by nikldn on Unsplash

Lent begins one week from today, with an online service via ZOOM on Ash Wednesday at 12:15 pm.
There's no preparation needed, there won't be an outward marking, but we will pray all of the prayers for Ash Wednesday as a proper, penitential beginning to a holy lent.
Please join us!

The St. Matthew's Christian Foundations study group
has decided on a community fast for Lent.

A community fast is not the sort of fast you're used to! It is a conscious effort to learn together and to work together to make certain choices around certain commodities. The two in focus this year will be cotton and chocolate. How big a difference could a community make if they think about their cotton and chocolate choices? Let's see!

St. Matthew's would love company in this, and so is opening it up to make it a parish community fast!  If you wish to join, write to
stmatthewsflorence@gmail.com and we will forward Mother Lisa's how-to email, and get you on her mailing list for the weekly article. Or write directly to Mother Lisa -- that works too!

SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER SERVICE

The Parish of the Transfiguration is holding morning prayer services on Zoom every Sunday morning at 10:00 am.  This is in addition to our pre-recorded service and sermon for Sunday morning (which is available on our website and YouTube account, also check out our daily compline services).

To fully participate you will need a copy of the Book of Alternative Services and a blue hymn book.  Contact your warden, if you need to borrow either of these books from your local parish, as they can assist you.

CATECHESIS

A catechesis study has already begun and is well under way, but you are still welcome to join in!  Use the parish Zoom link on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm.

✨   QUOTABLE QUOTE  ✨

"Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world.
For indeed, that's all who ever have."
~ Margaret Mead

It happens occasionally.  Has it happened to you?  Today I was hit again by the "pandemic calendar conundrum". YOU KNOW...thinking it was one day, when in fact it is another, ...which means your newsletter is a day late.  I hope it's true.  What they say..."Better late than never?!"   Where does one go from there, other than ending with this.  I hope your week is going better than mine and you are staying "present"
~ Tracy
