Stanford MTB Classic adopts popular guided ride format
This year’s Stanford MTB Classic will take on the popular guided ride format when the one-day mountain bike event takes place at Stanford Valley Guest Farm, Western Cape, on 27 February 2021.
Overberg MTB Events used this format for last year’s De Hoop Vlei MTB Experience, which proved to be a great success. Recent Covid-19 restrictions have resulted in many cycling events being either cancelled or postponed, which caused the decision to change Stanford MTB Classic’s format. Fortunately, we have the option to proceed with outdoor gatherings in accordance with SAPS’s low-risk approval in certain areas. |

Over the long weekend (19-22 March 2021) we will celebrate Human Rights Day (and the Rights of Nature to live and thrive) by planting over 1000 indigenous trees at Bodhi Khaya.
A single tree sequesters 1 ton of carbon over 40 years. We plan to plant 300,000 trees in 30 years which equates to over 12 million tons of carbon! The restored forest will become home to huge biodiversity and provide corridors for endangered species (like the cape leopard), and birds, amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and insects. The Retreet to the Forest is an intimate replacement for Greenpop's Reforest Fest this year (which was cancelled due to pandemic restrictions on event scale).

THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY MINISTRY OF
The Christian Community Ministry of Stanford hosts a combined English and Afrikaans service at 09h30 every SUNDAY in the Okkie Smuts School Hall. All necessary protocol is strictly followed and face masks are compulsory.
For those who are not able to attend our services at present, sermons are recorded on video and is available in Afrikaans on the following website: www.kerugma.org as well as on radio on a Sunday morning on Caledon FM at 10h00.

Kiwinet is excited to have partnered with Liezl Franken to produce masks to help slow the spread of COVID 19.
To keep the price as low as possible, Kiwinet is donating the fabric. Yes, some is off-cuts but there is a win-win here as it also reduces landfill. That good old fashioned saying, Waste not – Want not.
They are made with 3 layers of fabric, a soft inner cotton layer and an identifiable outer layer to ensure one wears it the right way round! They are made by our local seamstresses and tailors either at Kiwinet or at home - thereby providing an ongoing income to our staff and thus community.
Masks can be purchased and collected at Ou Meul and Kiwinet factory.

Children's Book Network
Our Lockdown Learning project was much appreciated by the 100 children who received weekly reading and activities in the form of 20-page handouts over a period of nine months last year. We continued from there with the Happiness Project that led them towards more intense thinking and writing around the theme of our senses. This will continue, with a smaller group of children in our 10-12 year-old age group until the end of February. We are busy developing new materials to begin on 1 March.

Ikhaya Youth Centre
A djacent to Hoopland Academy in Kleine Street in the Stanford industrial area, iKhaya Youth Centre offers a mentorship programme for children who have dropped out of the mainstream schooling system. The facility is managed by the Fynbos Community Foundation, which was founded by Koos and Joanie Smith after they started the first rural private school, Fynbos Academy, on their farm, Langverwacht in Papiesvlei, a few kilometres outside Stanford.
