WAYJO Club is an exciting new opportunity for aspiring instrumentalists and vocalists, aged 12-18 years during 2021 to learn about and participate in jazz music making with WAYJO in a social and inclusive setting.
Offering access to networks, resources, content, open rehearsals and jazz day-camps, WAYJO Club happens March-November as a combination of both online and in-person sessions (pandemic advisories permitting).
The year is divided into 2 semesters - so you can choose to participate for a single semester, or book the full year in advance to enjoy a discount. NO AUDITION is required to take part, WAYJO Club is open to all young musicians with a basic understanding of music.

Composition Workshop
with Alana Macpherson
Fresh from studying with some of Europe’s leading composers in Graz, Austria, Alana Macpherson is bringing her new knowledge to Perth in this exciting 7-week program designed for budding composers of any level.
In this program you will learn essential skills for composing and arranging music such as:
- Inner ear training
- Sketching tools
- Idea generation
- Analysis skills
- Compositional approaches
- Developing your own compositional language
Over the 7-week program you will write your own large ensemble piece which will culminate in a playdown of your new work with the WAYJO 10-piece ensemble at the beginning of May.
When: Saturdays 10am-1pm
Where: Maylands Town Hall
Dates: March 20, 27, April 10, 17, 24, May 1
Cost: $190, $120 for WAAPA students & WAYJO members (including WAYJO Club & Young Women in Jazz participants)
No prior jazz knowledge required - participants limited to just 10!

Young Women in Jazz 2021
Improvise and Connect!
Are you a female identifying instrumentalist aged 14-25 and would like to learn more about jazz and improvised music with some of Australia’s leading female jazz professionals?
Workshops commencing May 1st at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) offer guest artists, professional WAYJO alumnae tutors, plus the opportunity to perform in concert at the Ellington Jazz Club.
Young Women in Jazz is a great opportunity to explore this exciting artform while making new friends and musical connections. There is no audition required to participate, and places are limited to 50 participants.
