Each month, you'll receive this newsletter with all the upcoming provider trainings offered by PHLpreK. We'll include all the trainings we have scheduled so far for the current fiscal year. We will continue to list the trainings in the weekly newsletter. This newsletter is meant to help you organize training information.
This calendar has dates, times, locations, and explanations about whether trainings are mandatory and if they will be offered more than once in FY21.
Quality Assurance Trainings - February & March
Teaching Strategies GOLD - Parts 1 and 2 Required for New PHLpreK Lead Teachers & Admnistrators
This overview session addresses the objectives for development and learning, conducting objective observations of children, determining what children know and can do, and using assessment information to plan developmentally appropriate experiences. This course guides teachers and caregivers to thoroughly explore the 38 research-based objectives for development and learning that describe the path they will take with children and help them plan each day with the curricular objects in mind.
This training was offered in the fall.

Exploring How Creative Curriculum Supports Diversity
Is Creative Curriculum appropriate for children of color? Through this training the participants will learn how Creative Curriculum supports all children’s learning from different racial, religious and cultural/ethnic backgrounds. This training will also demonstrate how teachers can utilize Creative Curriculum to teach diversity. Furthermore, this session will address how the Creative Curriculum meets the individual differences of children in our programs.

An overview of basic of health and safety best practices to implement daily to mitigate the spread of infectious diseases such as influenza, COVID-19 and, Rotavirus.
Community of Practice: Menu Review and Menu Planning Ideas
This PHLpreK community of practice session will be an opportunity to discuss nutrition-related topics including highlights from the PHLpreK menu review and menu planning ideas. Space will be provided for participants to share past or current successes and challenges as well. Our first meeting will be held on March 5th, attendance is not mandatory, and participants can drop in to one or more sessions.

What: Community of Practice: Menu Review and Menu Planning Ideas
In this group session we will discuss the challenges of meeting program expectations and balancing them with the day-to-day routines. We will discuss strategies on staying organized and maintaining a positive attitude.
In this training we will identify how the fundamentals of the ERS, CLASS and Creative Curriculum overlap by using a crosswalk format. The main goal of this training is for participants to develop a greater understanding of how these tools work together to support best practice in childcare programs.
The needs of all children need to be met and the preschool to prison pipeline systematically limits the success of African American children. This training will identify what the pipeline is, and how it directly impacts the children that we serve. This session will touch upon implicit bias, supporting the ways children learn, developmentally appropriate expectations, and developing a cultural connection. Educators will discuss strategies to mitigate the negative impacts that the pipeline has on children in our society.

The two upcoming trainings below are part of the ChildWare suite, and have been offered before. They are only required for new PHLpreK providers, but are good refreshers for all providers!
