Attention MAM Parents/Guardians:

Students in Lower Elementary (grades 1-2-3) and Upper Elementary (grade 4-5-6) created an illustration in art class for an all-school video story telling project.

Students created work to illustrate the book "Your Name is a Song." Students in grades 1st-6th finished illustrations should be dropped off at the front door of MAM.

These illustrations will be collaged together for a video.
There will be a labeled drop off bin at the front door (outside).
The drop off dates are Feb 8th-19th, from 8:30-2:30 daily.

Thank you, Ms. Michaeleen Wilmsen

During the past month, our club, Adolescent Advocates for Change, decided to learn more about our school board candidates running in District 5; the district in which Maryland Avenue Montessori is located.

We created a questionnaire, and then sent it off to the four candidates running in District 5 for them to answer. After we received the answers, we decided to share them all with the community to help educate your decision when voting for school board candidates.

This MAM Family Loves the MPS Fresh Fruits and Veggies Program:

"I love the fresh fruit and veggie program because it gives me an opportunity to not think about, plan for or have to shop for meals. Being time insecure - its tough to get to store and be creative, because I tend to pick up the same old stuff. But through this program, I am able to stay in my neighborhood, and grab a bag of fresh food plus recipes. My son and I discovered that we actually like cooking together and this program helps us spend more time together, learning and engaging all our senses, plus the added bonus of family recipes going forward.” - Rae, MAM parent

“I love this program because it gives me an opportunity to learn new things.” - Elijah, age 11, MAM 5th grader.

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Families love the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program offered by Milwaukee Public Schools! The Department of Nutrition Services will continue the program in February with the theme Make Every Bite Count, which will help families learn how to prevent cancer, heart disease, and diabetes through diet.

Free weekly produce bags are available most Thursdays at MPS Stop, Grab, and Go locations. All children age 18 and under can receive a bag. Pick up your bags and join the fun!

Weekly themes are designed to help families cook together, enjoy new foods, and learn more about nutrients that are essential for good health, growth, and learning. Each produce bag has been specially selected to provide healthy fresh fruits and vegetables along with nutrition facts and recipes. Cooking videos are available on the MPS YouTube page.

Final February Theme:

February 25: Make Every Bite Count for Diabetes Prevention (A Celebration of National Pancake Day)

Recipe: German Pancakes with Berry Compote
Produce: Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries
