From the Principal

Dear Parkview Families,
These past two days have been a great success at Parkview as our teachers and students have had time to connect together over each child's learning. Thank you families for making these appointments a priority!

We have had a fantastic week with all of our in-person students back in the building. The joy is easy to see on students' faces and the building has a great energy once again. Students are doing a great job wearing their face coverings and following our safety procedures. Please continue to monitor your child's health at home each day and follow the guidelines for keeping your child at home when they are experiencing symptoms.
Thank you to our PTO for supporting our school in celebrating our 50th Anniversary at Parkview this year. Parkview Elementary School opened in 1970.  Fifty years later, many changes have happened in the school and community, and I speak on behalf of our entire staff to say that we all feel so fortunate to work in such a special school. To celebrate, our PTO has purchased a Parkview T-shirt for every student and staff. T-shirts were sent home with most of our in-person students yesterday. Most of our DA students took them home during assessments or they were mailed to the home. If your child did not get a t-shirt yet, they will receive one very soon.

Students have the option to wear these new shirts for school spirit days in the weeks ahead. Next TUESDAY is our first Spirit Day! Please help your child remember to wear their new t-shirt, and if they don't have one yet they can wear a Parkview shirt or another favorite shirt!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend. Stay warm!

Sincerely,
Nicole Garcia, Principal

From the Nurse

Hello Parkview Families!

While adult positive cases are more common, it is still very much possible for elementary and preschool aged children to get COVID. It is also even more likely that younger children with COVID will have symptoms that look like common illnesses like colds, influenza, strep throat, and allergies. There simply is no way for us to know whether a sore throat and sniffles is COVID or a common cold without testing, which is why the state and District 196 developed the protocols we have been using since the start of the school year.

So, as a reminder, any student with:
-fever greater than or equal to 100.4 F
-cough
-difficulty breathing
-altered sense of taste or smell

OR ANY combination of:
-fever greater than or equal to 100.4 F
-cough
-difficulty breathing
-altered sense of taste or smell
-sore throat
-nausea
-vomiting
-diarrhea
-chills
-muscle pain
-excessive fatigue
-headache
-nasal congestion
-runny nose

...must stay home or will need to be sent home from school. Any siblings or household members must also stay home. Ill students can return to school with a negative COVID test OR an alternative diagnosis from a health care provider OR after 10 days have passed since their symptoms began AS LONG AS they have had no fever for 24 hours without medication and their symptoms are improving. Siblings and household members may return when the ill student has negative COVID results or they have completed their 14 day quarantine period after the sick person has been isolated. COVID test results should be communicated by phone or email to Nurse Alecia.

You can find available testing options here:

https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/testsites/index.html

https://www.co.dakota.mn.us/HealthFamily/HandlingEmergencies/Disasters/Pages/drive-thru-testing.aspx

Next, I want to remind you of the face covering policy set by the state and enforced by the district.

Finally, please continue to report all student absences via the absence report form located on the home screen of the Parkview website or at https://forms.gle/KD8rLSa2vjY6ahU4A

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions about isolation/quarantine guidelines, timelines, COVID testing resources, etc.

Board Members Needed for Next Year's Board

Do you want to make a difference at Parkview? Nominations for Board members will be open in the next month or so with elections taking place in May. There are several board members who will be "retiring" this year. Generally, board positions are held as a team of two thus having 8 board members. Board member meetings are held once a month with general PTO meetings being held on the second Tuesday of the month during the school year. We would love to have you join our next PTO meeting on February 9th to find out more. Here is a summary of the positions on the board:

President - coordinate the work of all the officers and committees so that the purpose of the organization is served. (Effort: year-round, on-going)

Vice President - The vice president shall assist the president and carry out the president’s duties in his or her absence or inability to serve. (Effort: year-round, time varies depending upon roles)

Secretary - The secretary shall keep all records of the organization, take and record minutes, prepare the agenda, handle correspondence, and send notices of meetings to the membership. The secretary also keeps a copy of the minute’s book, bylaws, rules, membership list, and any other necessary supplies, and brings them to meetings. (Effort: 3-4 hours per month, includes
attending meeting and typing up minutes)

Treasurer - The treasurer shall receive all funds of the organization, keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, and pay out funds in accordance with the approval of the Executive Board and Parkview Elementary PTO Financial Guidelines. He or she will present a financial statement at every meeting and at other times of the year when requested by the Executive Board and make a full report at the end of the year. (Effort: 4-5 hours per month, average)
