Alaska ACS | Evangelizing Alaska
Alaska ACS is evangelizing Alaska by helping to meet the needs of individuals through community service outreach. There are so many ways that we can share Jesus with our friends and neighbors. Elder Jose Cortes Jr spoke on this during the 2021 Elders Meetings; the way to evangelize Alaska is through first establishing a relationship with our neighbors by meeting their needs. ACS Director, Virlyn Dodge, encourages you to take a few moments to view the video and may you be inspired to share Jesus through in your community.

Alyeskan Stories Needed
The next edition of the Alyeskan will focus on how Gospel Disciples are sharing Jesus in their communities. If your church or school has a community outreach ministry, we would like to feature it in the Alyeskan. Articles of about 400 words are needed by March 31 along with a few high resolution pictures. Contact Brenda Campbell Johnson by email or call the conference at 907.346.1004 x1000 if you have questions or would like to submit an article.

A Tribute to Joe Cote And The Cote Family
It is with great sadness that we say a temporary farewell to one of our Arctic Mission Adventure (AMA) family members, Mr. Joe Cote of Gray, Tennessee.  Joe, his wife Leola and their children William (and his family) and Rebekah have been long time advocates of reaching Alaska Native communities in the name of Jesus Christ. Joe and Leola were especially keen to support church plants in areas that AMA lacked a presence.

The Cote family is directly responsible for our church plant in Dutch Harbor and for helping to move the Barrow Company to church status and into a new building. Joe’s love of God and faith in Jesus’ soon return directed his commitment in supporting new gospel opportunities and the workers that sacrifice to share Jesus to Alaska communities. This is evidenced in the compilation letter from Joe to the Barrow church and Dutch Harbor AMA worker:
Dear Barrow Church and Dutch Harbor Workers,

I have been in daily prayer for the Dutch Harbor and Barrow AMA projects and the leadership of the Alaska Conference.

I believe the time is at hand for God to do a great work, not only for AMA in Alaska, but around the world. Jesus has warned us, “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Matthew 24.44. Praise God that Jesus is no respecter of persons or places. Yes, I believe God has not forgotten Barrow or Dutch Harbor Alaska and many other such places around the world.

Not long ago I was reading "Testimonies for the Church", Volume 7 pages 21-24. My heart was moved as I read of the simple ways that we can work even in out of the way places. In my enthusiasm to uplift Jesus, may I share with you a few of the blessings from my reading. God, through the Spirit of Prophecy, is giving to us some simple plans that we might follow to witness for Him at this time. I realize this is a very personal experience for each one of us to pray about first.

Thank you, Barrow Church, for your large commitment of faith in going forward with the work that Jesus would have you to do at this time. This is why I believe that God has answered your prayers and has sent you Pastor Zack and Celesta Babb. Let us always remember, that inspiration tells us that Jesus would have come to this earth to die for even one sinner. It matters not, if this one soul be a church member, a former church member, or a non-member. May this encourage us to go forward, in the power of Jesus, regardless of how forbidding the circumstances may appear.

 As for the Dutch Harbor Church plant, in answer to many prayers, God is moving AMA forward. Please let us know what one year of residence rent and utilities will cost. It will be a privilege for our family to send you these funds.

There is an old hymn song called “One Sat Alone, Beside the Highway Begging.” The chorus has these timely words:
 “When Jesus comes the tempter’s pow’r is broken;
  When Jesus comes the tears are wiped away.
  He takes the gloom and fills the life with glory,
   For all is changed when Jesus comes to stay.”

Lovingly,
Joe and Leola Cote and Family
