 Free Sculling Programs

LWRC will begin offering free programming to all its members through the end of March beginning Monday, February 15. We have many class offerings from Intermediate to Advanced for you to choose from, based on your skill and fitness level.

We recognize this is a challenging time and rowing offers many benefits for all of us.  During the pandemic, offering free classes is our way to sustain our community at a safe distance, provide a predictable routine during the pandemic and ensure you have options to stay fit and are ‘ready to get ready’ for the eventual return of our racing schedule.

Investing in our membership to keep you safe in colder weather and give you predictable group class options during the pandemic is important to us, so we encourage you to take advantage of this offer.

Please sign up via MindBody for available classes so that we know who to expect. If you’ve already purchased a class pass we will extend the expiration date so you can use later.

Safety Tips
Brrrr, it's cold out.

Winter/Dark Season Rowing Recommendations
  • Row with a friend once temperatures drop below 50 degrees.
  • Row in an Open Water boat – a Maas or Bay
  • Take a phone in a waterproof bag.
  • Bring a sponge or a bailer with you.
  • Wear thin neoprene pants.
  • Wear a self-inflating life jacket – could be worn around the waist (be sure to check that it works)
  • Review US Rowing guidelines on how to self-rescue if you are the one helping a fellow rower who has flipped a boat (include link to guidelines)
  • Bring a towel and extra change of clothing to the boathouse.
  • Row closer to shore in case you must get to shore quickly.
  • Be careful after big rainstorms as there can be a lot of large debris in the water (logs, submerged drums) that can easily cause damage if you hit them.
  • Do not row past the bulkhead on the south side of the Ballard Locks (this is true year-round)
  • Do not cut corners, row on the inside of the Pocock red buoy, cut across the waterway from the Fremont bridge when heading back to the boathouse or for any reason row down the ‘wrong side’ of the waterway.
