DALI Newsletter February 2021

Welcome to the first DALI Alliance newsletter for 2021. We were very impressed with the quality and scope of the entries we received for the DALI Lighting Awards, and congratulations to the winners listed below. More information on these projects, and others that were commended by the judges, can be found on our website. Next week, we have a joint webinar with Zhaga to explain the technical and procedural requirements for Zhaga-D4i certification. Elsewhere in this newsletter, you can find news about the first certified D4i control device, and our membership of the IP-BLiS association. 

DALI Lighting Awards: Winners announced

The DALI Alliance has announced the winners of the DALI Lighting Awards, celebrating the best use of DALI control solutions in lighting projects around the world, as well as recognizing the value of delivering quality illumination to clients and end-users.  

The awards were held in association with arc (the international architectural lighting design magazine) and the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD).

As well as the Winners listed here, the judges also gave Highly Commended awards to several other projects, and highlighted one further project for a Judges' Special Mention. 

Paul Drosihn, General Manager of the DALI Alliance, said, “The entries showcased a wealth of creative and technical merit, with DALI being utilized to solve unique lighting control challenges. Many thanks to those who participated, and huge congratulations to all our winners.”

How to get Zhaga-D4i certification:
Webinar on February 18th

The DALI Alliance and the Zhaga Consortium will jointly host a webinar on Thursday February 18th at 13:00 CET entitled "How to get Zhaga-D4i certification for luminaires, sensors and communication nodes." 

Speakers from the DALI Alliance, Zhaga and test house Dekra will describe how to achieve Zhaga-D4i certification for different product types, covering the technical requirements as well as the key testing and verification steps.

DALI Alliance joins IP-BLiS

The DALI Alliance has joined IP-BLiS, the "IP Building & Lighting Standards" market interest group launched in June 2020 by BACnet International, KNX Association, OCF, Thread Group and the Zigbee Alliance.

Together, these standards organizations support the widespread adoption of a secure, multi-standard, IP-based infrastructure as the backbone in commercial buildings for lighting and building-automation solutions.

DALI is evolving to offer IP-based solutions that use IP-based carriers to transport the DALI commands. The first standardized implementation of DALI over IP will use Thread’s low-power, wireless-mesh networking protocol as the underlying carrier.

First D4i control device is certified

SELC Ireland Ltd has become the first DALI Alliance member to achieve D4i certification of a control device. The SELC External RF DC Node is an external luminaire module with embedded communications that provides secure, two-way control and monitoring for outdoor lighting.

D4i certification of control devices requires implementation of the DiiA Specification “DALI Part 351: Luminaire-mounted control devices.” The SELC module is a type D device, as defined in Part 351.

Certified Zhaga-D4i luminaires

Almost 70 families of outdoor Zhaga-D4i luminaires, from 12 manufacturers, are now listed in the product database on the Zhaga website. These manufacturers include DALI Alliance members Schreder, Signify, Siteco, Trilux and Zumtobel.

Zhaga-D4i luminaires use D4i LED drivers, which provide luminaire, energy and diagnostics data, and also have a powered Zhaga receptacle. This can accommodate a D4i-certified sensor or communication node with a corresponding Zhaga baseplate.

The Zhaga-D4i ecosystem of lighting products enables smart, future-proof LED luminaires with IoT connectivity.
