EV103 FOTOVÕISTLUS / PHOTO CONTEST - In a normal year, we would be making plans to celebrate the upcoming Estonian Independence Day together. It's anything but a normal year - so instead, we are inviting you to share your corner of the world or favorite adventure in a photo.
PHOTO SPECIFICS: The only contest rule is that the photo must include the Estonian flag (any size), in a place you love. Photos can be taken at home, in the wild, at your favorite local landmark... use your imagination!
HOW TO ENTER: Photos can be submitted by e-mail to sanfranciscoeestiselts@gmail.com. (Please include a general location where the photo was taken.) On Facebook, you can also tag Eesti By The Bay in your photo in a public post.
DUE DATE: February 21
WINNERS will receive one of several prizes, including a gift certificate to AmEst Foods, from whom you can order your favorite Kalev chocolates and Eesti Pagar breads in the United States. More details coming!

Flag-raising in San Francisco
The Consulate General of Estonia in San Francisco has arranged with the City of San Francisco for the Estonian flag to fly from San Francisco City Hall on February 24 again this year, in honor of the anniversary of Estonian independence.
While there are no public events in conjunction with the flag raising, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the flag will be viewable all day from the Civic Center plaza side of City Hall (Polk St.). If you are in the city that day, stop by to enjoy and take a photo!

Film screening of 1944 and discussion with screenwriter Leo Kunnas (Väliseesti Muuseum (VEMU))
Eesti Vabariigi aastapäeva puhul näitame Elmo Nüganeni sõjadraamat 1944 (2015, ingliskeelsete subtiitritega), millele järgneb vestlus filmi stsenaristi ja endise ohvitseri Leo Kunnasega. Film käsitleb sündmusi Teise maailmasõja lõpus, kui Saksa armee taganes pealetungiva Nõukogude Liidu vägede ees ja Eestis algas uus Nõukogude okupatsioon.
In commemoration of Estonian Independence Day, there will be an online screening of the Estonian film by Elmo Nüganen 1944 (2015, with English subtitles), followed by a discussion with screenwriter and former military officer Leo Kunnas. 1944 is an Estonian war drama that follows the devastating events that occurred as the Soviet Union advanced against the Germany army to occupy Estonia at the end of the Second World War.
Following the film, the discussion with Leo Kunnas will be held in Estonian.

The Estonian Society of Los Angeles hosts featured speaker, Consul General Ann Hänni of the Consulate General of Estonia in San Francisco. Ann Hänni is a graduate of the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy in the field of choir conducting and she also holds a degree from the University of Tartu in political science. She has worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1998.
Guest speeches and performances from our friends around the world plus Los Angeles Estonians' own kannel ensemble "Inglikeeled."

Vabariigi aastapäev Paides (Estonian Independence Day in Paide)
This year's state celebration of the anniversary of Estonian independence takes place in Paide. Although some traditional events will not take place due to the pandemic, President Kaljulaid's address and the anniversary concert will be broadcast on ETV and available to stream worldwide.

MTÜ Lõimeleer kutsub eesti keele- ja kultuurikümbluslaagrisse!
New application deadline: March 1
Lõimeleer on suvelaager, mis ühendab väliseesti noori ja peresid ning Eestiga seotud mitmekultuurilisi inimesi Eestiga. Laagris saab suhelda eakaaslastega Eestist, õppida rahvapärast pilli-laulu-tantsu-mängu, käia suitsusaunas, sõita hobuse ja paadiga, mängida veesõda, käia öösel tonte otsimas ja palju muud. 2020. aastal näiteks korraldasime eesti traditsioonis laagripulma. 2021. aastal plaanime naeru töötoas tutvuda sellega, kuidas eestlased ja kuidas teised rahvad naeravad.
Lõimeleer aitab noortel õppida tundma eesti kultuuri ning arendada eesti keele oskust vahvate suviste tegevuste ja suhtluse kaudu. Koolitunni stiilis keele õppimist ei toimu. Töökeel on küll eesti keel, kuid vajadusel oleme tegevusi selgitanud üle ka inglise keeles ja nii oleme alati hästi hakkama saanud. Viie tegevusaasta jooksul on meie laagrites osalenud lapsi USAst, Kanadast, Rootsist, Kasahstanist, Soomest, Iirimaalt, Suurbritanniast, Uus Meremaalt, Šveitsist, Itaaliast, Saksamaalt, Norrast ja loomulikult ka Eestist. Väga paljud lapsed tulevad aasta-aastalt uuesti, et kohtuda vanade tuttavate laste ja kasvatajatega.
2021. aastal toimub laager kolmes kuuepäevases vahetuses: 11.‒17. juuli, 18.‒24. juuli ja 25.‒31. juuli. Rohkem infot.
NGO HomeComing invites you to an Estonian language and culture camp!
HomeComing is a summer camp that connects young Estonians living abroad and multicultural families living in Estonia with Estonian life and culture. In our camp, one can socialise with peers from Estonia, learn Estonian handicrafts and traditional songs, dances, games and to play instruments. Camp days include horse cart and dugout canoe rides or berry picking in the bog. We do everything in the Estonian way, but ensure that nobody is excluded because their language skills. Activities vary from year to year, in 2020, for example, we organised a traditional Estonian camp wedding. In 2021, we plan to host a laughter workshop to introduce the laughter of different cultures.
In 2021, the camp will be held in three 6-day shifts: 11–17 July, 18–24 July and 25–31 July. Apply by March 1! More info.

Ülemaailmne Eesti Kesknõukogu (ÜEKN) võtab tööle tegevjuhi
Ülemaailmne Eesti Kesknõukogu (ÜEKN) võtab tööle tegevjuhi. Tegevjuhi ülesanded on:
- Hoida regulaarset kontakti ÜEKN liikmetega ning teiste organisatsioonidega
- Protokollida juhatuse ja täiskogu koosolekuid
- Tehniliselt administreerida Zoomi-, telefoni- ja füüsilisi koosolekuid
- Valmistada ja välja saata pressiteateid
- Arendada ja juhtida ÜEKN prograame ja tegevust
- Korraldada ÜEKN-iga seotud üritusi (seminare, aktuseid jms)
- Hallata ÜEKN kodulehte, andmebaasi ja arhiivi
- Koostada aasta tegevusaruandeid
Tegevjuhti iseloomustavad:
- Hea eesti ja inglise keel
- Väga hea arvutioskus (Word, Excel, Google Drive, Wordpress, Facebook) ja võimeline iseseisvalt töötama virtuaalses keskkonnas
- Hea esinemis- ja kirjutamisoskus
