Facebook might censor criticism of Zionists. That’s dangerous (The Guardian)

Rabbi Alissa Wise writes: "By making ‘Zionists’ a de facto protected category, Facebook would shield the Israeli government from accountability and harm efforts to dismantle antisemitism."

"The Israeli government and its rightwing allies are using this moment to double down on their campaign to equate all forms of anti-Zionism – the moral, political or religiously based opposition to an ethnic Jewish nation-state in historic Palestine – with antisemitism."

"This is not a sincere attempt to end anti-Jewish bigotry and violence. It is a breathtakingly cynical gambit to limit our ability to hold Israel accountable for its ongoing human rights abuses against Palestinians. And Facebook might take the bait."
As schools around the world deal with Covid, Palestinian children also face the threat of demolitions (The Independent)

Tala Shurrab writes: "In Palestine, there is no safety in schools; classrooms are not immune from the violence caused by the occupation and childhoods are scarred by the trauma of it."

"In the West Bank, schoolchildren fear checkpoints, tear gas, and bulldozers. For us growing up in the Gaza Strip, we fear bombs falling from the sky and are ready to jump from our chairs at any time during class. No child should have to feel this way."

"Imagine growing up in a place where everyone around you has been exposed to political unrest, where your basic rights are stripped from you as soon as you are born. You soon learn that you live in what feels like an open-air prison. It is a kind of psychological strangulation, a parallel to the Israeli checkpoints and blockade."
Scoop: Jewish National Fund plans to pour millions into expanding West Bank settlements (Axios)

Barak Ravid writes: "The board of the Jewish National Fund (JNF) is set to approve a new policy on Sunday that will allow the organization to officially purchase land in the West Bank for the potential expansion of Israeli settlements there, according to a draft resolution I obtained."

"A non-governmental organization founded in 1901 to purchase land for Jews to settle in Ottoman Palestine, JNF today owns 15% of all the land in Israel."

"This major policy shift could funnel hundreds of millions of dollars into the expansion of West Bank settlements, which are considered illegal under international law."

"The move comes as the Biden administration begins to roll back Trump’s policies to legitimize settlements."

‘Guardian’ columnist says he got canned as antisemitic for one tweet satirizing U.S. aid to Israel (Mondoweiss)

Philip Weiss writes: "Israel gets away with murdering Palestinian protesters with the complicity of the Guardian, Nathan Robinson says, because it censors critics of the country."

"Robinson writes in the magazine he edits, Current Affairs, that his story is important because it shows why Israel gets away with murdering Palestinian protesters– because the U.S. media do not tolerate any criticism of the country’s war crimes, let alone efforts to highlight how much aid we send to Israel."

"The importance of his case is that it demonstrates clearly how the pro-Israel discussion wins, and why Israel gets “away with horrific crimes."

Israel demolishes an entire Palestinian village (Channel 4)

Jon Snow reports: "Israel has been demolishing a Palestinian Bedouin village in the occupied West Bank, bulldozing tents on land where people have lived for a generation."

"Israel claims that residents were living there illegally, but human rights groups say it’s an attempt to drive an entire Palestinian community from the area. And the international community is speaking out too."

"They destroyed the entire Humsa community."

"On Friday James Cleverly, the Foreign Office Minister, called upon Israel to stop these demolitions."

CAUSE OF THE WEEK:

"PCRF envisions a world where all children in the Middle East have access to quality medical care, regardless of nationality, religious or political affiliation, and specialized health services for children are independent and developed at the highest standards."

"Our Mission is to provide medical and humanitarian relief collectively and individually to Arab children throughout the Levant, regardless of their nationality, politics or religion."
