Greenville Dreams works to empower neighborhoods to build upon their strengths and assets in order to help these communities improve together. Greenville Dreams is a coalition of neighborhood leaders, and the organization hopes to help these leaders engage with their neighborhoods and collaborate with one another, facilitating resident-focused neighborhood development across all of Greenville County. Working in partnership with United Way of Greenville County (UWGC), the City of Greenville (CG), and the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority (GCRA), Greenville Dreams supports individuals from Special Emphasis Neighborhoods across the county and hopes to help them effectively lead their neighborhood associations.
Members of the Greenville Dreams coalition are also vital neighborhood voices in the Greenville Affordable Housing Coalition. Their input ensures that the needs of Greenville County’s most vulnerable residents are not overlooked. “Affordable housing helps to prevent homelessness, gives people stability, and helps improve their quality of life physically and mentally. Having affordable housing in my community improves the vitality and stability of my community and provides a safe place for people to live, work and play,” says Inez Morris. Gina Norris-Hinton represents the Slater-Marietta Community Association, and describes the need for affordable housing preservation in her community, where she tries to ensure that residents can “live healthy and sustainable lifestyles, which begins with a safe place to live and grow.” In the effort to preserve existing homes in the community, they “assist residents with roof repairs, handicap ramps, plumbing, and repairs to the exterior and interior structure of the home.” These two women and the neighborhoods they represent indicate the individual needs of each community within Greenville County, and their experiences are necessary aspects of GAHC’s work.
