Keep it up for half term

Half term is here and we know the thought of not seeing your family and friends this time is hard.

It's tough on all of us, but we're urging people to stick to the guidelines next week and remember that Covid-19 remains a risk to us all.

Cornwall has done really well at reducing its infection rate over the last month. Please continue to do your bit and not let all that effort go to waste now.

For this half term, remember to leave your home only for essential reasons like shopping and daily local exercise.

Always stay 2 metres away from others. Remember that it's not safe to meet in groups, even outside.

We may only meet one other person once a day for exercise and this rule applies to children too. Stick to your bubble.

Your vaccine questions answered

Do you have questions about the safety of Covid-19 vaccines and how they will help us beat the pandemic? We hosted a live online Q&A session earlier this week that's available to replay and will give you some answers.

On the panel were assistant director of public health Dr Ruth Goldstein, infection prevention and control nurse Tracy Mills and public health practitioner Dr Whitney Curry.

Looking after our mental health

We all have times when we feel stressed, anxious or frightened. Often these feelings pass, but sometimes for some people they don't go away on their own and can develop into a more serious problem.

Looking after our mental wellbeing is just as important as the physical side of our health. This is especially true during times like these when we are all under added stress and uncertainty.

Our Healthy Cornwall team offers FREE mental wellbeing workshops that can provide you, or anyone you know who is struggling, with useful tools to help manage and support your mental health.

Help for EU citizens

Cornwall Council wants to make sure that EU citizens living in Cornwall get the support they need to complete the Home Office EU settlement scheme process.

The council is once again providing an ID scanning service that makes appointments available for anyone looking for help with their application.

Cornwall Council Leader Julian German said: “We are clear – we want our European citizen residents to stay here because we value their huge contribution to Cornwall."

Who's your covid superhero?

Do you know someone who’s gone the extra mile in their job during the pandemic to ensure people are cared for and safe?

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly’s Health and Care Partnership has joined forces with BBC Cornwall to celebrate and say thank you to our COVID superheroes.

Beware of vaccine scams

We know scammers are targeting elderly people.

Some fraudsters have posed as GPs requesting payment over the phone or have turned up on people’s doorsteps. In the UK, coronavirus vaccines are only available via the National Health Services of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. You may be contacted by the NHS, your employer, a GP surgery or pharmacy local to you to receive your vaccine. Remember, the vaccine is free. At no point should you be asked to pay or provide any personal and banking details.

If you think you've been a victim, report it online: http://actionfraud.police.uk

Take care near the cliffs

We're urging people to take extra care by the coast right now after a series of cliff falls across Cornwall.

Winter weather can sometimes make cliffs unstable and this can result in rocks and debris falling, often without warning.

Fines for litterlouts

Cornwall Council has been training up its parking enforcement officers to fine litter louts who drop personal protective equipment (PPE) or fail to pick up after their dog, as well as issue parking tickets.

Anyone caught littering could face a £150 fixed penalty notice. The scheme has seen an increase in the number of fixed penalty notices increase from 17 in 2018/2019 to 84 in 2019/2020.
