You snooze, we news: What we’re reading
Here are some stories we’ve been following from across the nation

Trump impeachment trial begins in the Senate
This week, the Senate began hearing arguments in the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump. A group of House Democrats, known as impeachment managers, are serving as the prosecution. They are attempting to prove that Trump incited a deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. The trial also saw the presentation of a never before released video of rioters searching the building for lawmakers and former Vice President Mike Pence with the intention of harming them.

House Dems propose $1,400 payments
On Monday night, House Democrats proposed sending $1,400 stimulus payments to Americans with up to $75,000 in annual income. The checks would be a part of the Biden Administration’s $1.9 trillion COVID relief plan, a plan that has been championed by Democrats but sharply criticized by Republicans. The broadening of stimulus payment eligibility among middle-class households is a sign that Democrats are moving ahead without Republican support.

Fauci optimistic about Spring vaccine rollout
Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Thursday he predicts the number of available COVID-19 doses “will allow for much more of a mass vaccination approach” beginning in March or April. Right now, amidst the rollout of the vaccine, the country is seeing a supply shortage of doses. But Fauci predicted that by spring it will be “open season” for wide-scale vaccinations.

The Quarantine Diaries

“Hi Mom”
By Paige Jacobsen, Div. 381

You asked me to submit my writing
But really it’s very uninviting

With a world gone up in flames,
All I can do is play video games

I go to class half asleep,
trying not to still count sheep

Im sitting at my desk, my brain a blur,
Trying to do what you would prefer

Since I’m here instead of at prom,
I’m writing this to say,
Hi mom
