WHAT'S GOING ON WITH GATEWAY BOULEVARD?

An opportunity for you to help us advocate for better design

Late in 2020, the City of Edmonton released a concept design for the reconstruction of Gateway Boulevard from University Avenue to Whyte Avenue. Gateway Boulevard is one of the key entrance points to our city and it intersects with Whyte Avenue, Edmonton’s premiere main street.

Paths for People believes that although the design takes steps in the right direction, we are still not fulfilling the vision that the community has for this area. If this redesign still fails active transportation from a safety and experience perspective, it fails as an intersection in a vibrant core area.

We need to get this right, or we miss a key opportunity to build a more urban and walkable core.

You can help us advocate for improvements to this crucial project. Visit the Letter-Writing Help link below for information on writing to your Councillor about this.

2021 STREET RE-ALLOCATION

Let us know what you think!

In April/May 2020, lanes on streets throughout Edmonton were re-allocated to provide additional space for active transportation users. 20 stretches of road were modified, and another 23 areas were turned into shared streets. They were removed in the fall, but the City is considering bringing them back in spring 2021.

Paths for People fully supports the return of re-allocated roadways, and we want to hear from you! What did you think of the initiative in 2020? Which lane expansions or shared streets were most useful? Where else do we deserve lane expansions or shared streets?
