From the Principal
The Mess Specialist!
If your home is anything like ours, there are plenty of days when the house looks like a scene from Home Alone. With three young boys (who all seem to have a talent for being messy), tidying and training is a constant battle. Besides their ability to create mess out of seemingly nothing, what surprises me most is their ability to let the mess inspire new games or activities. Couches turn into...

Kindergarten Bus Safety Visit
Today Kindergarten had a visit from Tash from the NRMA, Chris from Western Road Liners and Daniel Greef from Parkes Police. Our visitors taught us some important steps.
1. Wait 2 dinosaur steps away from the bus.
2. Get on the bus when the driver tells you.
3. Find a seat and put a seat belt on.
4. Put your school bag at your feet.
Some other things we learned are.....
Tell the bus driver if there are any problems. If you miss your stop tell the bus driver.
Daniel talked to us about being safe and only going home on the same bus.
Chris reminded us at the end that when we get off the bus we must wait on the side of the road for the bus to leave before we cross the road. Don't forget to look both ways.
Thank you to Parkes NRMA, Parkes Police and Western Road Liners for teaching us about bus safety.

Year 5
Year 5 has made a wonderful start to the year. Our classroom motto is PEACE: Pursue Excellence And Cherish Everyone. It has been wonderful to see this class working hard and supporting each other as they learn together.
Already, we have begun learning some exciting topics. We have been exploring what the eyes cannot see in a study of microorganisms, in which Year 5 completed a fun experiment and time lapse investigating how to make yeast work quickly. In English, we have also been studying imaginative recounts and how to create interesting texts using descriptive noun and verb groups. We have also been completing investigations in Mathematics, mapping the probability of events occurring, testing these and comparing the real world values.
Through all learning areas, Year 5 have been learning an important word: "justify." Whether giving an answer in Mathematics, a hypothesis in Science or a reading prediction in English, Year 5 are learning to back up their answers with sensible reasons.
Year 5 are already busy in 2021 and it is exciting to see what they will achieve this year.

Name: Bailey Boland.
Class: Year 12.
Quote to live by: It is during our Darkest moments that we Shine in the Light.
Person who inspires you the most and why: There are plenty of people out there in the world including family and friends that have inspired me to become the person I am today. Each individual that I’ve met has inspired me to always do things with a positive attitude despite circumstances and support others when they’re down and out.
What do you want to see happen at PCS in 2021: The main priority that I would like to see happen in PCS is students from all year groups bonding together in and out of the school environment. Doing such things like maybe adding small clubs or special sport games at lunch times etc.
What is your definition of leadership: Leadership is someone who is willing to sacrifice their time off and assist others in need. Someone who can rise to a majority of situations despite circumstances.
What is something that you want people to know about you: That I’m a loving and caring student, always willing to lend an ear to anyone who may feel lonely or wants to talk about personal matters, and I’m a huge Movie/Game enthusiast.
Favourite thing about school: The teachers at PCS are the best, the carnivals and school events have a great friendly atmosphere and participating in excursions with school friends and teachers.

What do you want to see happen at PCS in 2021: I want to see a welcoming, inclusive environment with more activities to do together between year groups during lunches etc.
What is your definition of leadership: A good leader doesn't always step forward to every job selfishly but is able to delegate to the best person suitable.

CSSA Hockey Gala Day
In stark contrast to the weather of last year, PCS competed up a division and performed admirably, please Coach Quince immensely.
After a quick getaway from Parkes on Wednesday afternoon, and an impromptu devotion in the evening led by Samuel, a fully rested Parkes side held their own in many matches until the last moment when a flurry of goals were conceded.
They played first against Northern Beaches - last year's victors - and held them to just 4-0, then 5-1 against Illawarra Christian School with Mary Sladden scoring the goal.
It was a tighter than expected match for Shire Christian College, though they did win 3 - 1, again Mary was the goal scorer.
They next played fellow country side Carinya from Tamworth, and in an entertaining game where many friendships were developed, the side lost 3 - 1, with Mary netting again.
The next game was against St George Christian School, and the side excelled, winning 5 - 1 with Mary and Samuel Quince scoring singles and Wira Thomson putting his mark on the game with a thumping Hattrick!
The last game was played in heavy rain against Southern Highlands, and it was disappointing to see a brave attempt unrewarded as the side went down 3 - 2, with Mary and Wira again scoring.
Over the course of the carnival, selectors were roaming around and in great news, Mary Sladden was selected in the Under 16 Girls team for CSSA, Wira Thomson made the open boys team for the second year, Samuel Quince was again selected as a reserve goalkeeper for the Open boys team, and rookie Nicholas Unger was selected as one of three shadow players for the 16-boy squad.
These players will be looking forward to the future CIS carnivals during May in Sydney.
The whole squad played very well, with the never say die attitude of Edward Mayo being a feature of play, especially against Carinya and the Shire School.
Bethany, Ella, Ashley and Mackenna also starred in the halves during the day and their efforts helped create a great team performance.
Thank you to everyone involved, especially Mrs Quince who again decided it would be good to enjoy her wedding anniversary around a pack of school kids, and to Mr Quince for coaching, driving and not telling any jokes for the whole trip!

NAPLAN 2021
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment of literacy and numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.
Our school will be participating in NAPLAN Online between 11 and 21 May 2021. In preparation for NAPLAN Online, our school will also be participating in practice tests between 22 March and 1 April. The practice test is a trial-run and key preparation activity for NAPLAN Online in May. It is not an assessment of student ability and the tests will not be marked.
Excessive preparation for NAPLAN Online is not recommended. Students can use the public demonstration site (https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public demonstration-site) to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and tools available in the NAPLAN Online tests.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher.
