Marketing course gives students the opportunity to “create their own adventure”
Kirsten Passyn, Ph.D., a marketing professor in the BSB, knows the field of marketing is extremely diverse and includes many areas of specialization. In order to give students the opportunity to experience and learn about more aspects of marketing, she created a course entitled Create Your Own Adventure.

Students receive SAP award
The Citadel and the SAP University Alliances (UA) have teamed up to provide the opportunity for cadets to earn the SAP UA Student Recognition Award. The award recognizes those cadets who have successfully completed three or more courses with significant SAP S/4 HANA content.

Dean's Message
After almost 10 years of planning and fundraising, as well as roughly two years of construction, the Baker School of Business has now moved to the fantastic Bastin Hall.  The facility is beautiful and functional.  We have state-of-the-art labs including a new finance lab, sales lab, and innovation lab.  Additionally, for the first time, we have amazing collaboration spaces for our students to work on team projects productively and efficiently.

Before the global pandemic made it a somewhat common part of life, the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business (BSB) knew that online learning is vital to increase and expand the business education of the state’s and nation’s workforce.

Now, according to U.S. News & World Report, The Citadel’s online Master of Business Administration (MBA) program is one of the Top 100 in the nation.

New software enhances the Baker Coaching Program  
Coaches and coachees in the Baker Coaching Program (BCP) now have an easier and more consistent way to connect and track their progress during the semester. Baker Connect is a social media type software platform specializing in higher education and focusing on connecting students with alumni and career relations.

Students earn academic honors
We are proud of our 254 scholars who earned gold stars or were named to the dean’s list for their academic excellence during the fall 2020 semester. This honor is even more impressive because of the challenges all students faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

An article co-authored by Michael Chitavi, DBA entitled "Kenya Is Becoming a Global Hub of FinTech Innovation" was published by The Harvard Business Review.

The article entitled "Accounting education research reveals benefits of active learning strategies in the classroom," written by Cynthia E. Bolt, CPA, M. Tax, was published in the Journal of Accountancy.

Susan Wright, CPA, Ph.D. authored the article "Get the most out of a guest speaker visit" which was published in the Journal of Accountancy.

Hee Yoon Kwon, Ph.D. co-authored the article "Op‐Ed Writing Assignment in Supply Chain Management Courses" which was published in the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education. Additionally, his article entitled "The Dark Side of Narrow Gamification: Negative Impact of Assessment Gamification on Student Perceptions and Content Knowledge" was published in INFORMS Transactions on Education.

“The Bankruptcy of Conservative Political Paternalism,” written by Richard Ebeling, Ph.D., was published on the American Institution for Economic Research website.

The Citadel and MUSC mask-making initiative is part of a South Carolina Museum exhibit relating to COVID-19 efforts in the state. This project was led by BSB professor, James Bezjian, Ph.D., along with Sarah Imam, Ph.D., and Dan Hawkins.

David Desplaces, Ph.D. has been elected 2021 chairperson for the South Carolina International Trade Coalition after serving as co-chair for 2020. 

Bruce "Woody" Caine, Ph.D. has published a book entitled Born Lucky. A Slightly Above Average Soldier's Life. It consists of a series of stories about his youth and 26-year military career as a US Army Infantry Officer.

The BSB faculty and staff donated 274 pounds of food to East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) as part of its Thanksgiving food drive. 

The entire Citadel community worked together to ensure the fall semester started and ended in-person while keeping students, faculty, and staff safe and healthy. Operation Fall Return was such a success, it received a mention in The Post and Courier newspaper
