Better Value Sooner Safer Happier

Helping organisations to deliver better outcomes and foster a more humane world of work

It has been a privilege to virtually meet with so many people from around the world recently. In the past month my co-authors and I have supported six meetups and multiple book club events. From our many discussions its clear the challenges of improving Ways of Working are universal. Using our meetup polling we observe some common antipatterns (more on this below).

Building on the attending of meetups, it's great to see three regional BVSSH Communities (Americas, EMEA and APAC time-zones) now providing an open-to-all opportunity for shared learning, as self-help groups to help you deliver better outcomes. Click on the link above or here to join. Thanks to the volunteer leadership teams for providing the energy and enthusiasm to make them possible.

Shared storytelling helps to inspire and encourage experimentation.  #BVSSH is here to help you on the journey to continuously delivering Better Value Sooner Safer Happier and fostering a more humane world of work.

BVSSH Americas :  Security Theater - Lightning Talk with Dana Finster
The BVSSH Americas Community inaugural meetup kicked off with a lightning talk on Security Theater by Dana followed up with a lean coffee.

For Dana's lightning talk click here
The lean coffee captured ideas of what people want from the BVSSH Americas community then dived into how to create a learning culture and deal with dogmatic Agile.  'Theater' refers to going through the motions of delivering value - rather than approaches that are grounded in reality.

Slow down in order to “speed up”: Pay continuous attention to Technical Excellence

Biological evolutionary theorists used to separate into two schools: those who believed that evolution proceeded gradually over time, and those who believed that species change suddenly after long periods of calm, triggered by significant geological events. Those two schools have now largely reconciled. Evolutionary change happens both gradually and with occasional step changes.

The same is true in organizations. Change is both gradual, and occasionally punctuated with disruptive changes that may come from new innovation, regulation, or market events.

Product development teams rarely uncover long-forgotten fish; however, they often find themselves dealing with the detritus of legacy enterprise applications and tripping over layers of fossilized but still-living code that’s been left behind
