Dan van Holst Pellekaan MP posted, Merv Lehmann is certainly a very deserving recipient of the People’s Choice Award in the South Australian Regional Showcase! Awarded in recognition of his “outstanding achievements and significant contribution to Regional SA”. Merv Lehmann is arguably one of the most recognised faces in the Goyder region from his role working at Robertstown General Store for more than 70 years! He has always provided friendly, professional and honest service to his community and this special recognition is very well deserved.
Southern Goyder Community (Eudunda & Robertstown and Districts) Congratulations to Merv Lehmann, you have been a great supporter of the Robertstown community and district, and your shop has been a great reason to stop in the town.
Robertstown: 4th March 9am – 11:30am Eudunda: 4th March 1:30pm – 4pm
The National Drought and Flood Agency are keen to help our region through the drought, recognizing that the effects carry on years after.
Described as a ‘one-stop shop’ this event is coming to the Eudunda Town Hall on 4 March to provide support and advice on the drought recovery & other challenges for rural Australia, like COVID-19. $500 @rotarydownunder debit cards also available.
Community Engagement Team Director Mary-Jane (MJ) McLeod, writes, “The Agency is conducting community outreach events throughout drought-affected districts in regional Australia to bring together community members and share with them important information about available drought support and how to access it. Under this Australian Government initiative, agencies (in partnership with state government agencies and non-government organisations) travel to drought-affected communities, or those recovering from years of drought to assist farming households.
“As an important connection to farmers and community members, we are delighted to invite you to be part of these events. “
A great day was had by all, for both volunteers and bargain hunters at the Grand Opening of the Eudunda Community Op Shop on Wednesday 17th February 2021.
Eudunda Community, Business and Tourism (ECBAT) have taken over the management of the Op Shop after Carers’ & Disability Link Barossa who had operated the shop form many years were unable to continue to do so. It will still be run by volunteers.
“Thank you to all who dropped in to wish us well, and we congratulate all those who found a bargain in the shop, it was a very successful day.” said Coordinator Annie Wilson.
“I would like to thank all those who helped us to re-vamp the shop, it now has a bright airy open space feel about it, so anyone especially those with mobility issues should also be able to look at all sections of our range of goods. So thank you to all our families, relatives and friends for helping in those few short weeks we had to get things changed over and up and running, it was hard work and long hours, but we can see a great result. We also wish to thank Goyder Electrical for their fantastic support in many ways, including even on the day by supporting the opening with a Free BBQ.
“We are also delighted to have some of the volunteers from the previous “Carer’s Link Op Shop” choose to continue volunteering for us. That they have continued on under ECBAT shows their dedication to the district and volunteerism. We do thank all the previous volunteers who have retired, you did a marvelous job over many years.
Volunteer Jenny Herriman, who was previously the Chair of the Eudunda Op Shop sub committee which ran the old shop, was very pleased with Opening Day, “Many people who were unable to make the opening have told us they are coming in to support the shop and we have already, even on our first day had some marvelous donations from people. One large donation of many well kept items was especially moving, as they were donated by a long term resident of Eudunda who is moving to retirement in Adelaide. THANK YOU! and all the very best. She has promised that she will be back often as she still has family living here in Eudunda.”
Judy Partington, Eudunda Community, Business and Tourism (ECBAT) Chairperson was delighted to see the support of the community at the opening, “The shop looks wonderful inside, it feels so much more open and bright and easy to move around,
“With ECBAT taking over the management, this means to the community that profits will be returned to the town for various projects, so let’s get behind this community initiative and support the wonderful volunteers who will be giving thier time and effort to make this a success.
“You will in essence be investing in your own community, so we hope that you feel pride in coming into the shop and supporting it, and I ask that you promote the shop far and wide”
Judy Partington, Eudunda Community, Business and Tourism (ECBAT) Chairperson
“I also had great pleasure in introducing CarersSA Australia and the Carer Gateway, services that are coming to this district to support us. Thanks to Lee Wingate and Steve Wales for coming up and talking to people about thier services. They actually were kept quite busy.”
Look out for a “Carers SA Gateway Information Session” coming soon to Eudunda.
The Op Shop will be open every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 2pm by volunteers.

STEVEN MARSHALL Premier of South Australia wrote in a recent email, dated 1st march 2021, “Today was another historic day for South Australia, as our nation-leading legislation banning single-use plastics came into effect.
“Data shows takeaway food and beverage packaging makes up more than one third of the litter found on Australian beaches.
“We have worked closely with community and industry on these changes, with many local businesses leading the charge on reducing their plastic use.”
* A video on the website also explains were an exception is in place to enable single-use plastic drinking straws to be accessed by people who need them – such as those living with a disability or due to health needs and also how traders can handle this.
There is no doubt about it, give the man a hammer and he will frame it, a trowel and he will build it and a paint brush and he will paint it.

The Show Committee truly wanted to give our community an event to be proud of in 2020. As everyone is aware it turned out to not be possible due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and 2020 was cancelled. Our Show was not alone, along with many other events.
Australia is still one of the most lucky countries in the World, here we are almost a year on from the first lockdown and Australia has escaped much of the devastation and loss of life suffered in many world leading overseas countries with over 2.5 Million Covid related deaths Worldwide to date. We respectfully remember that there has been 909 Covid related deaths in Australia so far and express sympathy to thier families and friends. Cancelling 2020 was hard to do, but the right thing to do.
The Eudunda Show Committee feel confident that 2021 will be kind to the show. The Committee is keen to get going and traditionally the season kicks of with the Show AGM
Eudunda Show AGM 24th March 2021 Eudunda RSL Rooms – 7:30pm ALL WELCOME
To put on the show takes a massive amount of work to be successful, and that effort is shared with the Committee, Volunteers and Sponsors and Supporters as the year progresses.
If you think you would like to support the committee, come along and listen and ask questions. Even if you can’t help by being on the committee there are many things to do along the way, especially in the last couple weeks leading up to the show and the Committee recognise the great value many people put in to doing that last minute help. Maybe you could be one who helps us there? Let us know you are interested.
The Show Committees next big challenge will be to run the Northern Area Shows Association (NASA) annual dinner on the 27th March which brings all 11 shows in our association together to celebrate the achievements of our Northern areas in the previous year, only this time of course we will celebrate the achievements of 2019.
COVID will still be around and will create extra work for us all, especially for our Secretary Mel Schutz, but we feel positive that as everyone as a Nation has experience at how to manage in a ‘COVID World’ we can have our event and that everyone involved in the show will care to keep each other safe by following whatever directives are active at the time.
We ask that everyone get behind the committee and support these events.
