Singing Update
Currently, despite our appeals, the NSW Government will only allow us to sing indoors - with all masked - if we reduce our capacity back to the 4m2/person rule. This would mean halving our Cathedral capacity back to only 60. Since all our congregations are now averaging between 55-120 people, this means turning away up to 50% of those now attending our congregations, so the remainder can sing. That’s not fair. The alternative at 2m2 is for a “choir" of up to 30, but they must all be distanced and facing the same way, which is not workable for us.

So at present, the pastoral staff have determined that
  • none of our Sunday congregations can sing indoors for now, except song leaders alone;
  • singing can continue outdoors where personnel and weather and other factors allow;
  • singing can occur indoors for the monthly Friendship Service since it averages clearly under 30;
  • singing can occur indoors for children’s ministry, (age 12 & under) with one adult song leader
This approach is in line with advice from our Archbishop. He continues to advocate on our behalf.
We also need to keep giving attention to good ventilation indoors, so remember if you feel the cold, and it’s at all cool or windy, that you bring a jacket to church.

Right Judgement
Minister's Letter- Sandy Grant

One of the Bible’s most misquoted verses is Matthew 7:1,

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”

Some people turn it on believers if they dare uphold Christian theology or ethics: Jesus as the only Saviour, the sanctity of human life, etc. “Don’t you go judging me!” We even use Jesus’ words among ourselves to resist a view we find uncomfy.

Of course, we live in a judgmental age. People accuse others of being woke, or racist, or phobic all the time. Cancel culture means censoring those who express views that we judge as unacceptable.

But it’s sad that people are satisfied to use one short bit of Scripture in a shallow way. So what does Jesus mean? The old saying is that a text without a context is a pretext for a proof-text...

Acknowledgement of Country
In this Minister’s Letter, Sandy explains why we include an ‘Acknowledgement of Country’ in the slides before church starts, respecting the first inhabitants of our land, Australia. He also leads an annual acknowledgement of country and prayer at the AGM which, in 2021, is scheduled for March 29 from 7:30pm.

Mowing Roster
We would like to start mowing on a volunteer basis once again. It involves self-managed teams of ~4 people mowing every 2/3 weeks during summer, slowing down to once a month during winter (you might only mow once per term). The first schedule will be late March/early April. If you are interested, please let staff know via the connect form or contact Col Moodie (5pm).
