Next week at a glance...

Monday - All children to come in school games kit. Owl Class bring swimming kit

We are really looking forward to welcoming you all back to school on Monday, see below for staggered start and finish times and the video instructions for drop off and collection. It is very important we tighten up back to the one way system for drop off and collection. While we have had reduced numbers in school it has been possible to let this slide and parents have still been able to socially distance. Please ensure you are using the correct gates to enter and exit the car park and use the queuing system.

We hope children will feel happy and excited to return to school, if they feel a little apprehensive, please rest assured that we are prepared for that and will do everything we can to make them feel happy.

World Book Day

Thank you all for joining in with our world book day celebration. We hope you had a lovely cosy day in your PJ's and enjoyed listening to the stories everyday. Did you manage to guess the Masked Reader correctly?! I think everyone recognised Mrs Ingram but it was very tricky! Here are some pictures of you completing Mrs B's Book Bingo! On Monday, everyone will receive a £1 book token to spend on a WBD book. This year the dates have been extended so you should be able to spend them once the shops reopen!

Book Week Bingo!

Thank-you for joining in with our school wide game of Book Week Bingo this week! We really enjoyed hearing about all the crazy places you read and loved seeing your gorgeous photos!
Don't forget to bring your completed Bingo sheet into school on Monday and you will win a prize!

School reading books
Teachers will be reassessing children's reading levels next week so please can all school reading books be returned on Monday. Thank-you.

A plea from Kingfisher Class...

Kingfisher Class would love to receive any tall, plastic, sweet-shop style jars and buttons for use in our maths resources area.
Thank-you, Mrs Burgess.

Lateral flow testing for parents

Last week the government announced that twice weekly lateral flow testing was to be made available to all parents of Primary aged children. At this stage we have received no further information about this from the DFE of Gov.uk, however, a parent has made us aware that she collected some from the Park and Ride site on Caton Road. She was told she did not need to make an appointment, just to join the queue and collect some tests.

What has been happening in the classroom?

Hip Hip Hooray we made it to the end of home learning! A huge well done to all Puffins who have worked so hard at home since January, we have been amazed at how hard you have worked, enjoyed seeing your smiling faces on the screen and loved our daily catch ups. Puffin children and parents give yourselves a huge pat on the back - you have been awesome ! Puffins who have been in school have also been amazing and they cannot wait to have their classmates back on Monday. For the next few weeks we are going to be settling back in and having lots of Puffin fun and laughter together. Have a super weekend and  (I have been waiting so long to type this !) see you on Monday!.

This week the Robins have enjoyed lots of stories and books and have even created their own book of riddles! Mr Mc Morrow was very impressed with the riddles Year 2 had produced and had turned them into a fantastic book. We have enjoyed finding out about the illustrator Lydia Monks, and created our own story theatres. We loved trying to guess who the voices were on 'The Masked Reader' - it was very hard but very funny! We have also loved Mrs B's book bingo and have been reading under the table, upside down, in the woods and in the sunshine. A lovely week and we can't wait to all be back together next week!

We've enjoyed our very own Spring Watch Live in our Google Classroom this week. A huge thank-you to Daisy, Joshua and Ezra who have reported live from home and introduced us to a lamb, new-born chick and two beautiful Silkie hens.

We have also immersed ourselves in books and stories this week, in honour of World Book Day. The children have enjoyed playing Book Bingo! Listening to stories, guessing the identity of masked readers, and studying Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

They have designed some wonderful new sweets for Mr Willy Wonka, including Wonka's Watermelon Whizzcrackers, Bursting Rainbow sweets, Baby Bubblegum, Jawbreakers, Hyper strips (which carry a warning not to give to children under 5)! Bomb-blasters, Bubble and Pops, Rainbow Tongue Lasers, Light-Saber Fizzes (for Star Wars fans), Super-hip-healthy-hooray sweets and delicious Fizzywrinkles, to name a few!

The descriptions that the children have written to accompany these fabulous sweets are equally creative and fantastical! They have also imagined what would happen if they were to eat a 'Best Day Ever' sweet and their creative writing about this was wonderful to read. Well done Kingfishers.

Thank-you for all your hard work this week, We can't wait to see you all next week,
Mrs Burgess and Mrs Cunliffe

Congratulations you have all passed the test as 'home educators'. I am really looking forward to seeing the children back in school on Monday morning. I am sure it will take a little while before we all settled back down to near normal. The children have done fantastically well since Christmas with their involvement in my online lessons. They have developed a new set of skills which will prove extremely valuable in the future. I have enjoyed all the book related activities this week and it has been lovely to hear them reading.

On Monday after music and Spanish the children will be going swimming to Hornby pool, so the children will need their swimming costume and a towel. Games / PE will be on Friday,  if the children could come dressed appropriately with trainers it would be helpful.

I will let you know more details about the curriculum once the children have settled in and I have assessed the areas which need focusing upon.

Thank you once again for all your support since Christmas.

Kind regards

MrB

PTFA

Mothers Day

In order to help the children with a Mother’s Day gift the PTFA have arranged a little present that they can buy for £2.
Please send £2 in on Friday next week if you would like them to join in with this for a mum or a grandmother.

New Technology

The new tech is here!

The PTFA received a £500 donation from a computer games company as well as the balloon race match funding from the lovely Peter Freedman, which meant we raised enough to buy the two new Interactive Whiteboards and a Soundfield speaker system. They were installed on Thursday evening! Hopefully all of KS2 will enjoy using these when they get back into school on Monday.

The PTFA would like to say a really BIG Thank You to everyone that has carried on supporting all our events during the last few months, as we know it has been a difficult and uncertain time for many people..
We only started the fundraising for the new interactive whiteboards in December and so thank you for buying cakes, signing up to virtual balloon races and everything else we ask you to support.
All the money we raise gets put straight back into things for the children so we really appreciate the ongoing support.
