One of the underlying motives to document best practices within an organization is to reduce the mistakes made by project team members and managers. The resulting document can be used to train and remind people of expected practices.
When an organization commits to defining best practices, it has to decide how much detail to include in the guidelines and templates. One common tendency is to either write several times, hoping that each tome will be read and used, or make the document so abstract that it does not contain any guidance.
This tidbit is a brief look into the use of checklists as a way to concisely document practices and finds mistakes in an organization’s work.
In March 2018, a new version of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) and appraisal method was released. This article summarizes the changes and upcoming milestones.

Most of us today prefer to stay quiet and let someone else point out possible improvements in their work. The reason? Well, it’s a simpler choice. However, let’s think about this carefully – you’re talented, you’re productive, you’re good at your job, but how will you grow into it if you are not focusing on improving yourself.
Two forms of Health Check are offered the Silver Appraisal (SCAMPI B) and Gold Appraisal (SCAMPI A).
Both are led by a Certified CMMI® Lead Appraiser supported by trained Appraisal Team Members.
The primary difference between the two types of Health Check is the level of rigor and the fact that the SCAMPI A Appraisal can provide a Capability Level for each of the PMO Process Area in scope, the results can also be published on the CMMI® Institute PARS Site (Published Appraisal Results) if required.
The key deliverable being a report highlighting strengths and opportunities for improvement. This can optionally be expanded into a comprehensive PMO Improvement Plan the implementation of which can be supported by DEMIX Consultants if required.
