Johnson vaccine will be used next week

State health officials say Virginia is scheduled to receive 69,000 doses of the new Johnson and Johnson coronavirus vaccine later this week. They'll begin using it at mass vaccination clinics around Virginia beginning next week. The state does not promote one vaccine over the other, and all three vaccines now available have been approved by the federal government, increasing the overall number of people who can be vaccinated for covid-19.

The health department said that as of today 2,062,403 doses of the vaccine have been administered in Virginia, and 1,345,743 people have received at least one dose. Statewide, there have been 580,108 cases of the coronavirus reported since the pandemic began, including 1,549 cases reported today. The state said 6.6% of people who were tested for the coronavirus tested positive in Virginia. In Hampton, there have been 8,726 cases of the coronavirus reported since the pandemic began, including 18 new cases today.
