From the Principal

Dear Parkview Families,

We continue to be thankful to be back in-person for learning at Parkview. Your continued support in keeping our school community healthy is appreciated. Thank you for collective work to report symptoms and keep students home when they are ill.

Just a reminder that it is really important for students to have their iPad at school, every day.  Students also need earbuds or earphones for many activities with their iPad at school. Please ask your child to if they have earbuds or earphones at school and help ensure they keep them at school for learning in the classroom.

The weather is changing and students enjoy the fresh air time outside during recess. Students continue to need clothes for cold weather during recess. Thank you for helping to set up your child for success every day!

Sincerely,
Nicole Garcia, Principal

Roller Skating in Physical Education: Final Week

Running through Friday, March 12th, Parkview students in grades one through five have been roller skating in their physical education class. Students should not bring rollerblades as Skateville will again be providing roller skates for the students. For your child’s added protection, we strongly encourage that they bring knee and elbow pads, wrist guards and a helmet. Please review your child's shoe size with them, as this will help them get into their skates and skating sooner.

196Online Registration: Due Today

Today is the final day for priority enrollment into our new 196Online virtual school. All applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. tonight, March 4, after which students will be placed on a waiting list.

196Online is available to families in grades K-12 who would like their children to learn online in the 2021-22 school year. 196Online takes the best from the current digital academy program and adds enhancements based on suggestions from students and teachers.

196Online is an optional school that is held completely online. Families who would like their children to learn in-person this fall should not sign up for 196Online.

For more information, to view the presentation and Q&A session, learn more about the program and to enroll, visit 196Online.District196.org. Ready to enroll right now? Complete this brief form.

Board/Committee Nomination Form

We are looking for new board members as well as people to take the lead on PTO sponsored events. Many of the projects/events can have committees so you won't be tackling the event on your own. There are people who can help answer questions on what has been done previously. If you would like additional information on any of the positions, please send us an email at parkviewelempto@gmail.com or join the PTO meeting next Tuesday, March 9th. We need your help to make our events happen! Sign up using the nomination form below.

Board Members Needed for Next Year's Board

Do you want to make a difference at Parkview? Nominations for Board members will be open in the next month or so with elections taking place in May. There are several board members who will be "retiring" this year. Generally, board positions are held as a team of two thus having 8 board members. Board member meetings are held once a month with general PTO meetings being held on the second Tuesday of the month during the school year. We would love to have you join our next PTO meeting on March 9th to find out more. Here is a summary of the positions on the board:

President - coordinate the work of all the officers and committees so that the purpose of the organization is served. (Effort: year-round, on-going)

Vice President - The vice president shall assist the president and carry out the president’s duties in his or her absence or inability to serve. (Effort: year-round, time varies depending upon roles)

Secretary - The secretary shall keep all records of the organization, take and record minutes, prepare the agenda, handle correspondence, and send notices of meetings to the membership. The secretary also keeps a copy of the minute’s book, bylaws, rules, membership list, and any other necessary supplies, and brings them to meetings. (Effort: 3-4 hours per month, includes
attending meeting and typing up minutes)

Treasurer - The treasurer shall receive all funds of the organization, keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, and pay out funds in accordance with the approval of the Executive Board and Parkview Elementary PTO Financial Guidelines. He or she will present a financial statement at every meeting and at other times of the year when requested by the Executive Board and make a full report at the end of the year. (Effort: 4-5 hours per month, average)
