I'm looking forward to gathering with several of you on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. at the usual Emmanuel Zoom link for a parish Lenten check-in. March 7 is the 3rd Sunday in Lent (already!) and a good time to talk over how our Micropractices have been going. After time to reconnect and share about our Lenten journeys so far, we will conclude with the Book of Common Prayer Office of Compline, the church's "goodnight prayer." Hope to see you there.
This Week's Highlights
GREAT LITANY
The second Sunday in Lent is a traditional Great Litany Sunday at Emmanuel. If you missed it on Facebook, we reposted the superb Great Litany video that Emmanuel created last year early in the pandemic. Thanks to Lisa Cerezo and to Craig and Ethan Russell for their work on this project. Watch for a different Great Litany video for Lent 5.

LENTEN STATIONS
Join Marisa on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 12:15 p.m. for an in-person service of Lenten Stations of the Cross. An RSVP is not required for this event, but seating is limited to 20 locations in the pews and first come first served. While we will not walk from station to station in groups this year, experiencing the Stations of the Cross is a powerful way to absorb the mystery of Jesus' gift of himself to us.

LENTEN HYMN SING
“Now let us all with one accord, in company with ages past, keep vigil with our heavenly Lord in his temptation and his fast.” These sixth-century words attributed to Gregory the Great set by Freeman Lewis remind us that hymn singing is an important way to stay connected to our tradition and one another during this season of Lent. Join us at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17th for a Lenten Hymn Sing curated by Choirmaster Chris Mason and Organist Michael Fisher. Deacon Chris will offer prayers and a short meditation on the hymn texts.

MARCH  YOUNG ADULT EVENTS
  • On Friday, March 19th at 7 p.m., Skill Share is back with Emmanuel's very own Jo Thomas. Jo worked for the New York Times as an investigative reporter, covering such events as the Oklahoma City bombings. She'll tell us about her experience working as a journalist as well as her thoughts about journalism today. Let me know if you'd like to attend! And if you have any questions you'd particularly like Jo to address!
  • And, on the following Friday, March 26th, I'll be hosting Pub Theology at 7 p.m. We'll be taking a closer look at the Passion narrative in Mark's Gospel as we prepare for the coming Holy Week.
Contact Marisa to RSVP!

KIDS LENTEN MICROPRACTICES

You may have heard that Emmanuel has designed a Lenten Micropractices booklet for our Lenten home observance this year. But have you heard that there is also one for kids? If you have kids or grandkids or think of yourself as a kid-at-heart, drop by the office or contact Marisa for a children’s version of our Lenten Micropractices booklet! In it, you’ll find the same basic collection of a weekly spiritual discipline, a Scripture verse, and a prayer of the week, all modified for a younger age group.

WALKS WITH THE CURATE
Is the weather officially getting nicer? Was Punxsutawney Phil wrong? Who can really tell? Whether or not we’re going to have a longer or shorter winter, Marisa wants to remind you that Walks with the Curate are still on! Shoot her a text or an email to set up a jaunt around Champaign-Urbana.

Taking Faith Home

Parish Calendar

IN A PASTORAL EMERGENCY - If you or a family member are in the hospital or have another personal emergency, please let the clergy know; they are ready to visit or assist. If the office is closed, please leave the information (including which hospital) in one of their personal office voicemail boxes or on a home phone. Emmanuel can also arrange to have meals provided; just ask!

SCHEDULE INFORMATION -
Emmanuel's ministry staff seek health for both themselves and the parish culture by taking regular time off. MOTHER BETH is off on Fridays. DEACON CHRIS is currently working from home. MARISA CROFTS is off on Mondays. Voice mail may be left in their boxes at any time.

OFFICE HOURS -
The church office is open limited hours weekday mornings for work that cannot be done remotely. At other times our staff will continue fulfilling all their ministry responsibilities from home, including actively responding to email and phone messages.
