Dear Friend,

It's been a while since you received our e-newsletter. We hope our latest issue finds you and your pets in the best of health and spirits.

Ask anyone at Raintree, and they will tell you the most rewarding aspect of working at a veterinary clinic is, without a doubt, the patients we meet along the way. Whether furry, feathered or scaled, every single patient at Raintree leaves us with lasting memories of hope, courage and love. Although it may not be much, we hope our email newsletters will help spread some of that love and light, and brighten your day a little with stories of heartwarming animal friendships, community action, and useful information.

We hope you enjoy reading our updates, meeting some of our new in-patients, and browsing through our helpful tips on pet care. And if for any reason you feel you aren't quite ready to subscribe to our newsletter just yet, you can always unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of this email — we'll never hold that against you!

As always, thank you for your support throughout these difficult times, and a very Happy Diwali from the Raintree family!

Love,
Team Raintree

Mojo, Barfi and Slinky: The Brave In-Patients Who Stole Our Hearts
Last month, Pune’s animal welfare community was left shaken with the news of several stray dogs having been poisoned in Kalyani Nagar. Three of these dogs — Mojo, Barfi and Slinky — found their way to Raintree for intensive care. All three dogs were rushed to us in a critical state, and for the first 24 hours, as our entire team worked hard to stabilise them, we clung to hope by the thinnest of threads.

Today, we are so happy to share that Mojo and Barfi are safe home with their pack! Meanwhile, Slinky continues to remain as an in-patient at Raintree. Although he has made remarkable progress, Slinky still suffers from paralysis as a result of his ordeal, and is receiving daily physiotherapy and exercises (he especially loves his hydrotherapy sessions in our pool), along with a specialised diet and daily visits from his wonderful guardians. At Raintree, we stand by a holistic approach to healing: in addition to experienced doctors and the best in veterinary technology, it is also important to recognise that animals (especially strays/rescues who have undergone trauma) also need the time and space to heal emotionally. While Mojo and Barfi slowly go back to their lives as faithful community dogs, we hope that Slinky will respond well to his therapy in time, and will soon return home to his loving pack.
48 Hours: Two Different Foreign Body Extraction Emergencies
Over the course of two days, we met two different dogs exhibiting similar symptoms: Felix, a little Golden Retriever puppy, and Kofi, a sweet 3-year-old Shih Tzu. Diagnostics and physical examinations revealed that both Felix and Kofi were suffering from a case of foreign body ingestion, which is a potentially life-threatening condition.

We are so happy to report that both patients recovered well and went home with their relieved families. Watch this video to see how we approached each case!

Important: If you suspect that your pet may have swallowed something they shouldn’t, please call your vet immediately, as an intestinal or stomach obstruction could compromise or cut off blood supply to vital tissues. If you would like to reach a Raintree vet, please don't hesitate to call us on our emergency number.

Small Actions, Immeasurable Impact...

In addition to Mojo, Barfi and Slinky, over the past few months, we have attended to a number of animal emergencies that required urgent blood transfusions. Thanks to some incredible canine blood donors and their families, we were able to provide life-saving emergency care to animals in need (such as Simba the Mastiff, who recovered from a particularly debilitating condition). But canine blood donors in our city are few and far between, and just like humans, not every donor will be a match for every patient. That's where your dog could help!

While the blood donation process typically only takes 15-20 minutes of a donor's time, those 15 minutes could help make an immeasurable impact by saving another animal's life. If you'd like to sign your little one up to become a canine blood donor, please click here to register. If you have any questions about the process before you sign up, please never hesitate to reach out to us via phone, email, or social media.

Celebrations and Awareness Efforts

In addition to some quick but very special birthday celebrations with our wonderful staff, September-October has been full of important dates and awareness efforts. In September, we celebrated World Rabies Day by offering free anti-rabies vaccinations for stray dogs and cats at our clinic, and held a digital Q&A session to help promote the WHO's "Facts, not Fear" theme for 2021. We also plan to continue our annual tradition of an Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive on Republic Day, so if you missed getting your community animals vaccinated (particularly if you live in/near Uday Baug), do be sure to book a slot with us on 26th January.

Although we're grateful to our wonderful team every single day, this World Vet Nurse Day, together with your love and support on social media, we wanted to take a moment to thank our senior Vet Techs Noel, Rajesh, Merle and Rashmi, night care Vet Techs Rakesh and Sonu, Veterinary Assistants Sunil and Roshan, and jack-of-all-trades Kausar (ace equine tech, part-time small animal tech and full-time stock supervisor) for their invaluable hard work and compassion for all animals!

Thank you for signing up to receive Raintree Veterinary Clinic's bi-monthly newsletters. We are a small, family-run clinic that promises never to spam, share, or compromise your personal information in any way. What we do promise is one email every two months, comprising important updates, heartwarming stories, and useful information for your pets.
