Choose Your Learning Location

Today is deadline for middle and high school pathway changes

During this pandemic year, Eugene School District 4J has offered families a choice of three options for learning: participating in on-site learning when the hybrid model begins, continuing all-online learning connected with your regular school, or enrolling in the district's separate online academy. Families chose an enrollment option for your students before the start of the school year and later had the opportunity to change your choice for the second term.

The district is offering families one more opportunity to change your choice of learning pathways, before on-site learning begins in the hybrid model. Elementary families had the opportunity to make changes in February. Now, middle and high school families are invited to change your student’s pathway for spring term.

Today, Thursday, March 4 is the deadline for middle and high school families to change your student's enrollment option for Trimester 3.

Please make the best choice for your student based on whether you want them to learn in-person at school some of the time (Same School Hybrid), keep learning all online and connected with their regular school (Same School Online), or learn all online independently, asynchronously and with a different curriculum program than your regular school (Eugene Online Academy).

You only need to respond if you want to make a change. No action is needed if you want to continue with your student’s current choice.

Parents have been sent reminders of which option your student was enrolled in for Trimester 2. These reminders do not reflect any recent change requests you have submitted, and you do not need to submit your request a second time.

Need Childcare? Options Are Available

Learn more about local options in virtual open house Saturday

Many families need childcare while students aren't at school on-site full-time.

During distance learning, the district has been partnering with local childcare providers and providing space for full-day childcare options at school sites.

Once the hybrid on-site learning model begins, many 4J elementary schools will have before- and after-school community childcare programs offered on-site.

Many other local childcare options are available. Elementary families enrolled in the hybrid learning model were notified this week whether their student will attend school on-site on Mondays and Tuesdays, or on Thursdays and Fridays, so they can schedule childcare for other times.

Quality Care Connections, a program of Lane Community College, is holding a virtual childcare open house this Saturday for 4J families to learn more about childcare options in the Eugene area. Local providers will provide a short presentation introducing their programs to families looking for childcare.

When: Saturday, March 6, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.

Nominate an Outstanding Educator Today

2021 ACE Awards nominations are open now! Recognize a deserving 4J teacher, classified employee or administrator by April 15

Eugene School District 4J has exceptional people who make a difference for students every day, whether in person or from a distance. Nominating a valued educator for the ACE Awards is a wonderful way to honor the incredible talent and dedication of our amazing teachers, classified staff and administrators, especially in this year of unprecedented challenges.

Nominations are accepted in three categories this year: teachers & licensed specialists, classified staff and administrators & supervisors. The deadline to submit nominations is Thursday, April 15.

One nominee in each category will be named the ACE champion and receive a $250 grant for a school or program of their choosing from the Eugene Education Foundation. One nominee also may be recognized with a special lifetime achievement award. Every nominee will be recognized at the virtual awards ceremony in June. We appreciate our excellent educators, even from a distance!

Watch High School Games Online, Not On-Site

On-site spectators currently not allowed due to state restrictions • District will livestream varsity games to provide online access

Families and fans can watch 4J high school sports teams safely online now that they’ve returned to the field of competition. Varsity games will be livestreamed to provide virtual access. Links to game schedules and video streams are shared on the district website.

On-site spectators currently are not permitted, to comply with state regulations that must be followed for school sports to be allowed. State requirements prohibit standing outside the fence around athletic fields. Families who come to games must remain in their cars in the parking lot.

League officials are expected to stop contests if they see fans gathering at a fenceline or other violations occurring. School staff and Eugene police will be present for safety and security, as is routine for athletic events under non-pandemic circumstances. The district hopes not to see any high school team have a contest canceled by game officials due to adults not complying with the state health and safety requirements.

At this time, one team has had activities suspended due to COVID exposure. The success of all on-site school activities, including sports, is dependent upon everyone in our community helping to limit the transmission of COVID-19. Standard health and safety measures are essential, including wearing face masks, maintaining physical distance, cooperating with public health contact tracing, and following other public health recommendations—on or off the field. Thank you for doing your part!

Planning For A New Camas Ridge

Share your thoughts by 3/11

Planning is underway and design work is beginning for the new Camas Ridge Elementary School, thanks to voters' approval of the 2018 school bond measure. The new school building will be designed for safety and security, efficiency and sustainability, and 21st century learning.

In a first step, community members are invited to review the preliminary site plan and other project information presented by the design team, Pivot Architecture, and provide feedback online. Community input gathered during this phase will help inform the next steps.
