1) IWD Video Banner and Podcasts!

In keeping with the commitment to participation, everyone is invited to join IWD celebrations by submitting a short video recognizing the 2021 theme “Choose to Challenge.” Send us a recording of yourself (maximum 30 seconds), and we’ll stitch your message into a collective video banner for PEI. Cell phone quality, casual videos are welcome.

Sample videos:
Jane – https://www.facebook.com/peistatusofwomen/posts/3733776233325583
Michelle – https://www.facebook.com/peistatusofwomen/posts/3734159023287304

It is best to send your IWD video clips to us via Facebook messenger. Send them by end of day Thursday, March 4th. https://www.facebook.com/peistatusofwomen
Or submit your short video to info@peistatusofwomen.ca

“Choosing to Challenge” is especially relevant when we reflect back on this year of challenges during COVID-19, and the inequalities that the pandemic and our responses to it have exposed. Many of the most glaring challenges worldwide have the greatest impact on women, girls and gender diverse people. We continue to challenge for the rights to safety, choice, participation in decision-making, and access to substantive equality for everyone, everywhere.

The podcast recordings will be made available on March 8th, International Women’s Day. Five exceptional women and gender diverse people, in conversation with another inspiring member of the community, will share their perspectives and experiences of “choosing to challenge.” The five episodes can be found on our Facebook page: facebook.com/peistatusofwomen or wherever you get your podcasts.

4) #IWDPEI

On March 8, 2021, everyone is encouraged to celebrate women who have made a difference in their lives by using the hashtag #iwdpei on social media. Too often women’s contributions in PEI – and around the world – have been invisible. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to shine a light on the women who have made a difference in our lives.

We want to celebrate the diverse voices and contributions PEI women have made – and continue to make. We know International Women’s Day celebrations will look different this year due to COVID-19, but we hope the social media campaign contributes to the events being planned throughout the community.

5) Feminist Reset: Centring Collective Care in a Post-Covid Future. A Conversation for IWD.

Event by Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives-NS
Online: feministreset.eventbrite.ca
Monday, March 8, 2021
at 7 PM AST – 8:30 PM AST

Price: Free ·
Duration: 1 hr 30 min

Join us for a night of conversation for International Women's Day, with El Jones, Nora Loreto, and Julianne Acker-Verney. Moderated by Fazeela Jiwa, Fernwood Publishing.

Join the conversation to discuss what our future post-Covid-19 could look like. The pandemic has had a tremendous impact on those who were already made vulnerable by social and economic systems that expects them to fill in gaps left in our society and institutions. What has also been brought to the fore is the power of social movements to push for change, like the Black Lives Matter movement, or the feminist movement. How do we work together to ensure that our future post-Covid-19 is one that centres collective care of each other and the planet, and one that justly supports those needing, providing and receiving care?

Hosted by CCPA-NS, Wellness Within and Fernwood Publishing.
Sponsored by Adsum for Women & Children; The Alexa McDonough Institute for Women, Gender and Social Justice; Canadian Research Institute for Advancement of Women; Canadian Union of Public Employees Nova Scotia; Fernwood Publishing; and the Local Council of Women Halifax.

Register in advance to get the Zoom link: https://feministreset.eventbrite.ca

*We will be posting a link of the recording to Facebook.

12) Senior’s Health and Wellness Action Plan

Sharing important Island surveys for Seniors, near-Seniors, and for those who care for Seniors and near-Seniors who access health and wellness services here on PEI

In 2018, the PEI government developed a Seniors' Health and Wellness Action Plan for Islanders. As part of their work, they are trying to gain a better understanding of how seniors and those who support seniors find information on health and wellness services available across PEI.

To do this, they are conducting a survey with seniors and near seniors (anyone 55 and older), as well as with those who support seniors (either informally: e.g. family, friends, neighbours or formally: e.g. service providers).

The seniors' survey is available online and in paper format. To access the online version, seniors just need to click on the link below and follow the instructions. The survey is confidential and anonymous and will take no more than 5 minutes to complete. Those who completed it can submit their name for one of two draws for a $20.00 gift card to Sobeys.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SeniorsActionPlanSurvey

If seniors prefer to receive a paper copy of the survey, they can call Crystal MacIntyre at 902-368-6257, or email at dmacintyre@ihis.org.  A paper version of the survey will be sent in the mail with two paid, self-addressed envelopes to return their survey and their ballot for the prize draw.

The survey for those who support seniors is available online only through the link below. It is confidential and anonymous and will take no more that 5 minutes to complete.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SeniorsActionPlanSupport

Please note that these surveys are confidential and anonymous, meaning no identifying information will be completed. If you have any questions or concerns about this survey, please contact David Webster, Senior’s Health and Wellness Action Plan Task Team Chair at websterd@hotmail.com
