Happy Women's History Month!
Join LWV For the People Act Friendbank Today!

Hello everyone,

There are two opportunities coming up to help address pressing issues starting tomorrow! Please see below to learn more about the events and how to participate:

For The People Act Friendbank March 3, 5-6PM ET

The For the People Act (HR1) is expected to be brought to a vote in the House of Representatives soon! HR1 is a top priority for the League of Women Voters because it addresses some of the most pressing issues facing our democracy. HR1 will:

·      Restore the Voting Rights Act;

·      Modernize our voter registration system;

·      Update the public financing of elections through small donor matching funds;

·      Curb partisan gerrymandering;

·      Make campaign contributions more transparent, and more!

To get this bill passed, we need to contact our representatives and mobilize our networks to do the same! Inviting our own friends, families, and acquaintances to take action builds our collective power by multiplying our efforts and showing our representatives we are watching and care about these reforms.

Join LWVUS for our “Friendbank” on Wednesday, March 3 at 5 – 6 pm ET for the opportunity to engage your friends, family, and networks in this crucial work of democracy reform! Sign up here!

What is a friendbank?

Like a textbank or phonebank, volunteers will reach out to individuals to encourage them to take action; except instead of contacting strangers from a voter file, we will be reaching out to our own contacts! Friendbanks are especially effective because people are more likely to act if they have been asked by a trusted messenger—like you!

How will it work?

Join us March 3 at 5 pm ET on Zoom for a brief training on how to use our relational organizing tool OutreachCircle to contact your networks via text and/or email. After the training, we will go into breakout rooms with other League members, staff, and volunteers to spend time contacting our friends and family, encouraging them to contact their representatives and vote Yes on the For the People Act!

You will need:

·       A smartphone

·       An OutreachCircle account

o   When you click on this link, you will be prompted to create an account with an email and password.

o   We recommend downloading the OutreachCircle app on your phone so you can fully participate through texting!

We are excited to see you and your friends at our Friendbank on March 3 at 5 pm ET to help pass the For the People Act!

People Powered Day of Action April 29, 2021

Since the 2020 census and election cycle have wrapped up, redistricting is on everyone’s mind. On April 29, 2021, we are hosting a People Powered Day of Action as an opportunity for state and local Leagues and partners across the country to come together to shine a light on the redistricting process and demand fair maps. Leagues throughout the country will be hosting a variety of local, state, and national events to increase public awareness about and engagement in the redistricting process to ensure public input on how our maps are drawn. As you plan your (virtual or safely in person) events and activities for Day of Action, please register all events!
